T3/T4 hybrid?
 

hey guys i'm new to this site, i've been researching turbos to piece a kit together for my 1.8 and i came across this ebay posting.

T3 T4 TURBO

3" INLET DIAMETER

2"OUTLET

WET FLOAT BEARING

1/8 NPT OIL INLET

.50 A/R COMPRESSOR

.63 A/R TURBINE

.57 TRIM

they are going for around 200 bucks. can anyone shead some light on wheather or not this is a good buy? has anyone used this kinda turbo? What hp #s can it support? thanks in advance.

ancient chinese recipe. some people have good luck with them, some don't last 5 miles. Run a -3AN line with them or an oil restrictor fitting. The seals are rumored to be made out of play-doh

I had a rebuilt turbo that has part garrett, mostly chinese. It lasted less than 5 miles under boost. I'm now running a used turbonetics of similar specs and its worked great. Unfortunately I could have bought a nice new GT turbo for a spent on the two. YMMV

what type of setup are you looking for?

does anyone know how much hp a T3 can support? i'm shooting for around 300 when i get my forged internals. what trim should i be looking for?

not any setup in particular, just doing research to piece together a kit. i like building my own stuff, i don't have enough stress in my life already. My buddy has a madrel pipe bender, and i got a mill and tig welder so i can make all the flanges and manifolds and junk, so i'm researching turbos and fuel management. i wanna do the megasquirt, but i don't know if i can have my car down long enough to mess with all the megasquirt settings.

I picked up my turbonetics for $350, with less than 1k on it. Just have to be patient and watch. Good turbos usually come up for deals from upgrades.

The T3/T4 hybrid is one of the more popular turbos for small displacement engines, though there are a lot of others being used.
The 57 trim is far more abundant that any other and is capable of big boost #s, great for full out drag, but a bit laggy for a street setup.
The 50 trim spools faster than the 57 trim and is still capable of 500 hp under a good tune and supporting parts. There is one guy on Miata.net that is producing 493 hp on pump gas with a ball bearing 50 trim hybrid.

If you are never going to want to produce over 300 hp, one of the smaller t25based turbos will get you there and spool even faster, making for a very spirited daily driver.

thanks man for the reply, i wanted to go with a t25 but i was worried that i would be workin the turbo too hard. i don't want it to burn out on me from constantly being at its max. maybe i'm just being too cautious, or maybe i just got used to boost lag from driving my friend's civic.
