T3 that's closest to GT2554R
what T3 is closest to the GT2554R in terms of flow and spool?
|
You are going to want the 50 Trim T3 compressor with the .42 A/R housing or at smallest the 45 Trim T3 with the .42 A/R housing. Couple that with a T3 turbine in the .36 A/R housing the standard trim T3 wheel or alternately the .48 A/R housing depending on how quick you need it to spool.
See http://64.225.76.178/catalog/t3.html on turbonetics web site. Honestly it might spool earlier than the GT2554R. Mark |
sounds like it might blow enough air to power a kazoo!

Is that wee T3 available from junkyards?

Any chinachargers on ebay close to it? I am very close to buying this turbo:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3T4-...QQcmdZViewItem What should I expect in terms of spool up RPM on something like that? Friend of mine has the 57 trim .63 A/R chinacharger, and while it works great and he loves it, for me, it spools too late, too much lag for my taste. How does the turbo I posted compare? |

A T3-50 would have the same turbine wheel as the T3-60?
Likewise the T3-45 turbine wheel is the same as the T3-60? If so the 0.48 a/r on the -50 or -45 would seem very large... |
I've found the stage 1 48 AR turbine spins up really quick. The only real limitation on the 1.8L is surge limit on the compressor. Stage 3 is a bit on the loose side, as turbines go. It only comes alive above 4000 rpm. The smaller one will probably be a restriction if you go for anything above 10-12 psi I'm thinking.

There are no less than 6 different common T3 turbine wheels and 6 different housings. Turbonetics only sells 3 wheels and 4 housings. The standard/stage I wheel is pretty tight and combined with the .48 housing spools pretty quick, although I would assume that the .36 housing would spool even faster, but choke power above 200 HP somewhat unless mated with a large external wastegate. T3 turbines go from 1.92"/2.32" to 2.54"/2.92" (My 76 trim aka P-trim wheel) or possibly even bigger. Then there is the blade count and the trim of the wheel to consider. The GT2560 is a 1.68"/2.15" 62 trim wheel near as I can tell. So there is a lot of possible combinations. Mark |

It's hard to say since the inducer and exducer sizes are not listed. I also suspect they have the compressor and turbine trims reversed. I like this configuration for low power better.

My big hang-up with that turbo is the lack of an internal wastegate, which is something I want (for simplicity and cost). My goal is about 200WHP and want the best spool up possible. I think I may take the plunge and just get it and find out. As long as it spools up sooner than the 57 trim .63 A/R that my friend has, I think I will be happy
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3T4-...spagenameZWDVW OOPS, My bad, it's a .60 A/R exhaust. You might have to spend the money to get a real deal garrett rebuild T3S60. That's the problem with the china chargers... selection is a little limited. You might as well buy a real T3 if you need something that is going to spool real early in a t3 cartridge. Mark |
Hey guys,
How fast you reckon a T3 50 trim .48 a/r turbine and .60 a/r compressor will spool and how much power it will make?

Get a smaller a/r compressor if you want the boost higher, the smaller .42 a/r will be better according to Garrett's website. The .48 with the small turbine spools pretty quick. Someone else ran it here and it did well. I would not expect it to spool as fast as the 2554R, but 300-500 RPM later. I have seen the .48 T3 keep up with the GT25's below 3000 RPM (2600 RPM iirc). Hi Mark,
U reckon the 250whp will be achieved at what kind of boost pressure? |
14 or so psi atleast.
