I just got my first car and it is a Miata! I am loving it!! I only wish it had more power. Before driving the Miata I drove my Mother's 2009 Mini Cooper S and when that turbo kicked in it was amazing. I am looking to get a turbo for my 2004 Miata LS.

I need help. I have been researching a lot of kits- Voodoo, Begi-S, Shanghai Begi. I don't know which one to pick.

My prefrence is to slowly get the parts for the turbo and within a year buy the turbo itself along with any other parts needed solely for the turbo and can only be installed once the turbo is in the engine.

I have looked at buying the DIY FM kit or the beginners BEGI-S kit part by part but the base price is around 1k. I have 700 to spend at the moment and I WANT HP!

I think my best option now is to look into building my own kit piece by piece. I would like to know your opinion on my situation as well as any and all solutions that anyone on this forum can think of.

As for a first recommendation for you, get a megasquirt & learn to tune your non-turbo vehicle first.

Congratulations on getting your first car. It sounds like you have a good base to start with, so please take this advice to heart. Don't mess it up by trying to do this as cheaply as possible.
There are good budget options out there, but in general, the path to power goes something like this:
1: standalone and wideband.
2: learn to tune it as is so you don't blow it up later.
3: injectors and retune (lots of good options here, but best bang for your buck are gt500 injectors from trackspeed)
4: clutch (again, lots of options, but FM seems like a pretty good standard here)
5: turbo kit and retune

There are other little things that go with the above list, but that is a general idea.
Note that none of these things are outrageously expensive alone, but they quickly add up and your budget is inadequate.
The best thing in your situation is to do each of these things one by one and spend a lot of time driving it.
It may not seem like it, but even stock the car is likely capable of giving you more performance than your skill level can handle.
