TD04H 15G DIY setup... best mani/DP?

I'm in the process of putting together a TD04H 15g setup on my '90. So far I only have the turbo and haven't decided on manifold/DP.

I've been looking at the EDT manifold, is that any good? Are there any other options?

For the DP I'm thinking BEGi; from what I've read everyone seems to rave about their DP. Any others worth considering?

you'd have to send your manifold and turbo to BEGi for them to build you one.

if it has a t25 inlet flange like some do, buy the BEGi manifold and just send them the turbo to make a DP for. Otherwise you're looking for complete custom work.

Wouldn't the BEGi GReddy DP work as it's the same turbo as the GReddy kit?

Braineack 12-16-2007 08:41 PM

it should, if it's the same turbo. I know the greddy one is a bit odd with the garrett t25 flange and the mitsu 4-bolt outlet.

but yeah that should work.

Ah, so there are different TD04H 15g's? I assumed they were all the same. I suppose I should check this stuff out before I start spending any more money!

Thanks Braineack.

If this means anything, it is actually a TRUST/GReddy branded TD04H 15g rather than a generic Mitsu one, but it did not come from a GReddy Miata turbo kit.

Send the turbo to BEGi. Stick it on one of their T25 manis and have them build a downpipe. The BEGi greddy downpipe wouldn't fit correctly if you're using one of their downpipes, so they'd have to build it one-off.

First, send the turbo to GPopShop and have them install a 19T compressor wheel and p&p the entries and outlets. Should be good for 40whp with no effect on spool. :)

I'm in Australia so it's probably not going to be cost effective to send the turbo to the States. Because the Aussie dollar is strong/US dollar is weak it is, however, cheap to buy parts.

What's a 19T compressor wheel? What does p&p the entries and outlets mean?

Ben 12-16-2007 09:39 PM

Shipping will suck, but you'll know with certainty that everything bolts up.

19T is a little bigger compressor wheel. The compressor housing has to get machined a little to make it fit. p&p = port & polish. the whole job costs $400USD. If I were doing this set up again, I'd have it done before installing it.

Cool, thanks for the advice, Ben!

Or just sell the turbo and go the T3 route. There is a BEGI mani & Mnai for sale righht now in the classifieds.(LOL) You could hve the same set up as Brain (LOL)

I have a scan of the flange and outlet:

I'd say it's pretty safe to say a ETD tubular and BEGi "GReddy" DP should work without issues.

Just to clarify, brain meant the ETD GReddy replacement mani as they do make a separate T2 flanged tubular manifold that puts the turbo in a different spot. Just a clarification so you don't order the wrong manifold.

Braineack 12-17-2007 09:07 AM

yeah sorry, the ETD Tubular GReddy Replacement Manifold.

pepejesus 12-17-2007 09:12 AM

Yep, EDT GReddy replacement was the one I was thinking of.

Is it any good? Would a BEGi cast mani be better?

How does the TD04H compare to a GT2554 or GT2560?

Braineack 12-17-2007 09:20 AM

I'd get the ETD over the greddy cast, unless you're getting it for under $50.

plenty of dynos of greddy kits out here, more comparable in spool to a 2860. Spool a tad late, but once they do the build boost fast as hell. Expect a top end in the 250-270rwhp range.

The TD04H-15G is similar to the GT2560 and probably a hair larger. So with the journal vs. bb, you get a little later spool and just a little more top end. Granted it's a bit more complicated than that as the turbine is different as well as the ratios.

Thinking about it, depending upon what your goals are, you might want to consider selling the GReddy turbo to someone who need a replacement and just getting the BEGi s-kit minus a few parts depending upon what you plan on doing for fuel/timing management. Just a thought.

pepejesus 12-17-2007 09:41 AM

The BEGi S was originally the plan but I've had a TD04 fall in my lap for free (plus a spare that I can sell) along with a Microtech ECU.

I'm planning on using the money I'm saving to put towards a 1.8 Torsen and an intercooler so I can actually use the extra power of the bigger turbo.
