Thinking about running some cams

Anybody have insight on the integral cams? I think thinking of going to the 257 with 9.4mm lift on my all stock 99 head running 12psi gt28r.

When choosing cams, you need to ask yourself where you want the powerband to be, and what kind of headwork you want to do.

or call a custom grind place and tell them you want power from XXXX-XXXX, and want them to bolt right in

so nobody has experience with these then?

I have a custom set from them for my 1.6 with the 99' stage 3 lobes ground on it for my shim under bucket lifters. They look spectacular, but I havent run them yet. The machine shop still has my rotating assembly. My 1.6 flywheel is getting machined for a tilton clutch cover and then they are going to balance everything. So hopefully within a couple weeks I can post up about everything.

Cams are only roughly in my power plans. It would be nice to hear about them and how much they really help, so I can get some better ideas.

For me at least though, I plan to beef up the springs first. So I know with what I want to do I'd probably be looking for cams for the top end (and higher).

i'm not so sure its worth spending money on. duration doesn't really help a turbo car because overlap of the valves actually pushes air/fuel out of the engine, and you don't need a bigger opening because your turbo is forcing air/fuel past the valves. If i were you i would spend my money on something that would have more of an effect, like larger valves and head work. if you got a big budget, well shit don't listen to me, but if you are budget conscious you can spend your money better elseware.

I would disagree with you there. The big guys on honda tech have recently shown that mild NA cams increase HP a considerable amount. They are making the same HP at 4 psi less going from stock cams to a NA cam like skunk 2 stage 2 cams. The same should apply to any small displacement dohc motor.

My integral cams have 236* @ 0.050" of lift. Thats about the same as the cams I mentioned. A big advantage honda motors have though are their rockers, it allows them to have much faster ramp speeds. Thats why their lobes have high lift for so long and then slam shut quickly.

The reason a little longer duration is good is for the exact reason you say they are bad. By having a little overlap you are much better able to get rid of burnt combustion gases after the power stroke.
