Trimming temp sensor

Just went to put my reroute in and discovered the temp sensor is about 20 rch's too long, can I trim it and have it still work properly? I think yes but want other opinions. I am wondering what the max amount I could trim off it is...don't want to have to buy a new one. I also have thought about getting a copper o ring but I would have to get a 1/4" thick one and then I would be worried about sealing.

I trimmed mine like this on my 96. Works great.

I am talking about the brass/copper/whatever piece, it interferes with the thermostat spring.

Aren't the tips filled with some sort of liquid?

To answer my question, you can take about 1/8" off then you hit the sensor tip which is metal wrapped with plastic...I went all out last night and fucked shit up. Never work when you are angry.

No problem, 16 bucks later and a few washers and I am good to go.
