Default 6 psi

Is an intercooler even needed with such low boost? (6 psi). Would there be any real gain with one any way?question for sure.

would it be beneficial? yes
is one necessary at such low boost? no
will you want to raise it up after about a week on 6psi? HELL YES
so might as well do it now and save yourself the trouble of re-doing everything later.

Is this true for superchargers too?
I assumed that this low boost would also be cooler from a supercharger since there would be less heat transfer than with a turbo.
Would the added plenum losses reduce the boost pressure and hence negate most, if not all, of the cooling gains?

my understanding is superchargers are less efficient than turbos and will push more heat

I dont have numbers, but when I was 6psi (like my sig suggests), I can barely touch the charge piping going into the intercooler, and and I can full on touch the piping from the intercooler... and it felt like ice.

I very recently added an i/c to my setup and all I can say is do it. You won't regret it. Check out my build thread for some pics.

Intercooler will benefit you at 6psi with either a SC or a turbo. It's more important with the SC as almost all superchargers will put more heat into the intake charge than a turbo. Mine isn't intercooled yet but will be before summer.

Yeah, kinda figured that. Read and re-reading excerpts from Corky's book and I guess I was wanting the easy way out. I go and look under the hood and I just can't figure out how the piping snakes its way through all that. With the AC drier (it ain't goin anywhere) taking a good chunk of real estate what do you all do?

It would be great if attended a meet somewhere & see all the different ways to do it. Second best would be to learn how to access the ''build threads". Maybe a lil direction there would help.

Best I can see is a IC about a 12x14 clear area ahead of the condenser. Is that a big enough area to make a worthwhile difference?

Well I'll figure something out sooner or later.

Remove your A/C, it will be alot easier for your intercooler and your drilling and tapping of the oil pan. Its a convertable man who needs A/C!!!

No such thing. You either do it right, or you end up doing it right later.

I mean there's ways to save money, don't get me wrong, but by NOT installing something that's vital to a turbo setup you're only robbing yourself of power and efficiency.

I dont even have the car yet, but there are some really great pics in the build threads that give you an idea of what is possible. Many people do some very very simple fab to move the rad back and thus gain some space for the IC.

Proper ducting also allows you to run a larger IC with great ambient air flow through it even with a relatively small frontal opening. I did some very cheapo ducting with sheet aluminum on my last project and it was a huge help to my side-mount IC. That only had about 30 square inches of opening feeding it, but with ducting I was able to make the most of it. Not bad for about 15 bucks at the hardware store and a few metal splinters.
