Turbo choice help - is it too small?

I'm starting to piece together a turbo system for my '91 BRG (still a 1.6), I already have an old manifold and dp TurboTim put together with a t25 flange on it and a 5 bolt dp. I've been looking at T25 turbos from the sr20, i found a few new ones on ebay but am not too sure what I'm looking at exactly, it's almost as if each seller leaves out a few bits of key information.

I ran into this though which I found interesting, its a "GT25" with water cooling, something I haven't specifically seen on the other T25's. It has a .42 AR compressor with a .49 turbine. My goal is to run 200 whp using MSPnP, 460cc injectors and an Ebay intercooler. Would this turbo be enough to hit that mark? I'm hoping with the smaller turbine AR it would spool quick enough to make up for the fact that its not a BB turbo.

Any help is appreciated.

Sounds Doable.

"if you have to ask"

LOL but seriously, I think is a good size for a 1.6. Pretty sure it'll hit the 200 mark too. Much more than that? Probably not.

sounds about the same size as my first turbo except it was t3 flanged

spooled great, but i decided to go bigger

.49 A/R turbine on a T25 is awfully small...pics are needed.

If you want an SR20 T25 go on nicoclub or zilvia or any other 240 forum and you will find 1343427 blown up ones. Then spend $90 on a rebuild kit and you are good.

I made 206rwhp on a VERY conservative tune on my 1.8 with the sr20 t25. Full spool by about 3k in 4th gear.

alright, here's a T25 with a much bigger A/R:

Braineack: would the first link be too big with a .86 A/R?

The second one would be my choice.

Looks to be a replacement to a TT skyline. I think it may be a little small for 200hp from a 1.6l. I'd go with the usual s13/s14 t25

zoomin 11-14-2009 02:34 PM

The first one linked doesn't appear to be water cooled either.

If so, yes it will get you to around 220whp, and a whole lot of torque down low. On my 1.8 I was getting 16psi out of it around 2600rpm, but only holding ~13psi to redline.

It is an oem turbo off an early Pontiac Sunbird GT, which has a 180hp 2.0L motor. I got mine for free.

Picked up a used GT2554r from the classifieds section. I also ended up winning a bid on a T25 from a s13/s14 with adapters which I may throw into the classifieds.

Thanks for all the input.

Smart decision, now you'll know the downpipe will bolt up.

Just get a huge turbine housing for it and continue to win at life.
