turbo choices?

Currently shopping around for a turbo that can eventually make me 250hp on a na8,just saw a "S15 T28 turbo excellent condition, inlet snout, actuator oil line 14411-75F00 $350 ono" for sale, and i was just wondering would i have fitment issues with this on a mx5, also does anyone know much about them? i know there non ball bearing turbos, and I'm sure there more reliable than a churbo anyway, really keen on buying one just not sure if I'm making the right choice in purchasing it, IF not what other types of turbos are suitable for my mx5?

any turbo can fit any car ever
the key is all the other parts

cheers 18psi, I think i will go for this turbo, its similar to the GT2560R, any feedback from it from experienced users here would be appreciated thank you.

Minosum,

Are you planning to fabricate the exhaust manifold and downpipe from scratch, or do you intend to purchase these pieces ready-made?

Well depends on which options a bit better on costs, right now I'm know a fabricater in Australia that can make me a manifold and dump pipe and other things, but if you know of some premade reliable manifolds or down pipes that can fit on a t28 turbo I'd appreciate some advice.

That turbo will work. It is the most used turbo for the miata and has the most off the self manifold/dp choices out there. Buy that, pick up a FM or Begi manifold. have someone fab up a down pipe. make 240 whp at 11 or so psi like many have on this forum including me.

I think I will try this as fabbing up a manifold is quite pricey, so Flyin Miata and begi manifolds will fit the t28? If so then great! Just have to find the manifold on its own, not sure Flyin Miata does it, and I'm sure begi doesn't post to aussie land.

Flyin miata will definitely sell you just the manifold. That link I posted allows you to build a kit with as much or as little a kit as you need. As a bonus, you will receive all the pieces at the same time.
T25/ 28 turbos share the same flange.

I can only assume I have spoken to you via facebook and email, and I assure you that I would be importing FM manifolds for the majority of basic builds such as yours if it were even close to cost effective.

Hey nitrodann yes that was me, currently just looking at all options with the setup, that's fair enough, I will let you know when I'm ready for the go ahead, I've purchased a apparently blown seal turbo t28 off a Silvia, more pictures and info will be put up on it tomorrow, apparently the previous owner put way too much boost through it over 20psi and his oil pressure dropped and apparently it started leaking, I might need to find ways of testing it or rebuild myself as I'm trying to keep costs to a minimum

nitrodann 05-20-2015 03:55 AM

I wont be offended at all no matter who you use for the parts, just a wanring about the total cost of getting FM's parts here. Id definately use them if it was viable myself.

OP actually came to me first to see if I would ship one of my setups down to Australia. While I have not looked up shipping costs yet I told him it would most likely be extremely costly and that he should probably goto you instead. Glad to hear from you that shipping in stuff is cost prohibitive, I figured you would go the Begi/FM route if it made sense.

Well this is the turbo i bought a t28, rebuild kit off ebay from this link

Garrett T28 Turbo Rebuild KIT SR20DET S14 200sx Gtir T2 | eBay

planning to rip it apart clean and change all the parts to begin with to make sure it will run, as I have no idea what happened when it was "blown".

I've noticed with the waste gate flapper, if i get my fingers around the smaller circle area and move it around the flapper actually moves left to right and around, just wondering if this is normal or needs fixing?

The compressor side, one of the fins look a bit manky but planning on giving it a good clean and hoping it works ok

And an overall view of the turbo

http://postimg.org/image/3n3lqvvbr/Not sure what those brackets are around the compressor side could it be that these come with a heat shield and my particular turbo hasn't got one?

Needs a good clean, I think it needs new studs on the intake side and the threads look a little damaged and a flange as it didn't come with one, I think ebay will do the trick, need an oil drain fitting plus many other things, for the time being looking at taking it apart with heaps of guides and videos online for the time being.
