Turbo conversion

Hello everyone I am new to thesite new to the Miata world just purchased a 91 Miata and a planning to do a turbo conversion I have been a tech for over ten years mainly in the desiel world but I wanted a gas project so I been reading about turbo charging a Miata and I thought it soundi kewl and I like the look of the Miata anyways I just bought a 91 Miata 1.6 manual it has a rod knock so motor has to be rebuilt so I wanna rebuild and to the turbo conversion my question is do I need to put a lower compression piston in to work with the turbo or is it ok to use the stock piston and what turbo kit and engine management system works best with the Miata?

Use high comp ones on cyls 1 and 4
And low comp ones on 2+3
Gives the best of both worlds, high comp for torque down low, but the low comp ones help with boost.

In all seriousness though, the NA6 is pretty low comp from factory, I think it's 8.5:1 off the top of my head.
People happily turbo the NBs with their stock 10.5:1 no problem. (granted, on a BP rather than a B6, but close enough)

A lot depends on what fuel you'll be using, E85 will take a lot more comp than 91ron that's probably got twigs in it.

ECU wise, if you're taking it to a tuner, ask them. Getting what they support will save money and headaches.
If tuning yourself, read the ECU section of the forum and pick based on your budget, what features you want, and what's got the best support.

Do not rebuild the 1.6. It costs the same to build a 1.8 and the heads breathe much better, among other things (VTPS, long nose crank, etc.)
