Default Engine rebuild/build up/boost related questions - what all should I upgrade?

I'm having my 1.6 rebuilt and am going to do a few upgrades in the process. I want to at least get some eagle rods, as I'm hoping to boost it to around 275 hp. My last one was at 219 on stock internals but I'd like to have something noticably quicker. Do I need to upgrade the pistons as well? If so, which should I go for? I'd like parts safe for 300hp at least to be sure. Also, what turbo should I look for to acheive 275hp? Is there a common dsm turbo that would work? (local dsm junk buddies) I greatly appreciate any help/input!

Get a BP, rebuild it with some upgraded rods, oem pistons, and run e85 on it.

I've never modified the internals on the 1.6, I've had 4 miatas and turbo'd the last two, 1 w/ a modified greddy kit and one w/ a pieced together kit and didn't see any threads relating to what each component can take. I don't want to mess with a 1.8. Thanks turbofan, you're so pretty. I was hoping 16psi would get me near 275ish on eagle h beam forged rods and new stock pistons, along w/ the rebuilt motor. I have a highly skilled mechanic who is building my engine for dirt cheap, and I already have the 1.6.

Ran 15psi on a 1.6 with rods. Otherwise completely stock 160k parts. No issues.

FWIW, a 16G of any flavor will provide enough flow to make 275WHP pretty easily. might need to run a higher pressure than some of the more common turbos for Miatas though. Spool on a 1.6 will be meh, but not awful by DSM standards. I would expect it to spool similar to a 20G/2L setup DSM really.

Alright cool. Thanks for the input! I'm probably going to get some wiseco pistons along w/ the eagle h beam rods and have it tuned at around 275hp so it'll last a decent amount of time.

SRS answer time:

If you're hell-bent on making the wrong choice and sticking with the 1.6, i'd do it with as little money as possible.

Fleabay rods, ARP fasteners, stock pistons, E85, beat that thing like it owes you money. It'll hold 275.

Makes sure not to run 276, or it will blow to smitherines. I think 275.99999999999 is ok tho

Don't want to hit 16.1psi, either. 16.09psi is ok, though.

I don't know why you're talking about HP, it doesn't mean anything. Only PSI matters.

I'd be more worried about the rear end then the engine if you haven't swapped a 1.8 rear in the car otherwise just like concealer said, do it cheap and get rods n studs
I also believe you are getting into sketchy tranny territory there but that may only be the case if you had 1.8L torque and power....but mainly torque

16.09 rounds up to 16.1, you really wanna stay below 16.04psi.

I haven't jumped the 1.8 band wagon either OP. I'd highly suggest staying under ~200-225ft/lbs, or buying a used 1.8, and rebuilding it. You could even keep stock rods and pistons with the 1.8 if it saves you money, and it'll be cheaper and less stress getting 275hp than a built 1.6

He already has a 1.8

And he's selling it, and building his 1.6 apparently.

I mean you have to put forth some serious effort to fael this hard.
