Was the Treadstone IC difficult to mount? It looks off center and crooked.

zarish 05-22-2008 12:36 AM

No it was not difficult to mount the IC, the reason its crooked is because I kept the AC and the lines are in its way so it will not sit any higher on the left side. It's also off center because the guy who did the intercooler piping didn't align it properly and f'd up my IC piping so I need to re align it later on and center it. But its not really that bad of a fit. I need to get my welder set up and have some more time so that I can realign it all.

Cool, I was curious because I plan to run the same IC, but your pic made me wonder about fitment. As long as I can mount it level and centered and keep the A/C I'll be happy.

Looks like another great 1.6 set up. How much did you pay those kids to do the install?

zarish 05-22-2008 11:37 AM

Well I had to redo a lot of it again my self and will be re aligning the intercooler. They just hung the IC with stupid metal tie wires. I was pist. After all said and done, I paid $500, not bad. I provided all the parts they needed. The main thing was the exhaust work which came out decent. I just have to get the piping bolted down or put clamps in it because it rattles, but that is not a big issue.

I think i'll be at the Salt Creek club's autox at Maywood Park on June 1st. Bring the car out Zarish. Then the turbo miatas can slowly begin their takeover of chicago.

zarish 05-22-2008 12:53 PM

Well I wish the 6UL's were available in stock. I really want those wheels. I ususlly don't go to any tracks or autox, but I might just come to see you guys. How many turbo miata guys here from chicago area? We should make a list. Maybe we can even get a dyno day setup with Mikey. He might give us a good rate.

What are your CLTs? I would imagine your temps have to be getting up there with the watercooled turbo + regular engine heat. Before you go buying wheels.. buy a 160 dollar radiator from godspeed.

zarish 05-22-2008 02:14 PM

I haven't really had a chance to drive the car much, but the temps are normal CLT. They have not changed at all. Even at Idle it stays around 215. I will get to drive it more this weekend then can give you a better answer on it. The turbo is oil and water cooled so it should hold up ok. The only thing getting really hot is the hood which I will do something about. I will also get the radiator but just ran out of cash for now. The reason I wanted the tires and wheels is because I can't put the power to the pavement with my stock tires.

hows the setup holding up?
