Turbo in an NC?
Has anybody bothered to do this yet? I know there aren't any kits because of the pre-cats and smog crap, but there are a bunch of states that don't require emissions.
I have no intentions of owning an NC, I'm just curious. btw, I was surprised not to find an answer to this when I searched. Makes me think nobody has done it yet. |

I believe BEGi is building a remote-mount setup for the NC. I haven't run across any exhaust manifolds specific to the NC either, but then again, I don't own one so I haven't been specifically looking for it either. I am an internet addict though, and have learned a lot about a lot, especially miatas now that I own one.

Man, that looks like a mess. Not BEGI's work, just the engine compartment alone is a mess. Plus the manifold is on the wrong side. :giggle:

We have actually done two different turbo systems and one supercharger system for the NC. The supercharger kit was too expensive so it was canned. The rear mount was an experiment that actually runs quite well. But the production kit will be the photo above.
It is not CARB approved right now. We intend to get it certified, but it will be awhile. Stephanie |
So there have been two turbo NCs and both of them have been done by BEGi?
I guess this is more toward Stephanie: If one didn't care about being carb legal, how hard would it be to rig up a DIY setup? Are there some major hurdles with it, or has it just been hard because of the Carb approval? |

Backwards engine design? How is it backwards except that it flows the other way from NA/NBs?
And no, I'm not aware of the relocated battery. I'm not aware of anything on the NC except that it's got a 2.0L and 6 speed. I don't own one, and probably never will. I'm just curious about why there are tons of NAs and NBs on this forum, but seemingly no NCs. |
Like most new cars the electronics is becoming a pain in the butt. That and the NC requires totally new tooling, whereas the 1.6-1.8 was slight differences in design.
The NC's engine bay is crazy crammed. The battery is almost dead center forward of the motor. They need to drop the MS3's motor into the car, RWD of course. That would lead an easy path to upgrade the power. GM announced a 675.00 upgrade to increase the Solstice GXP and SKY Redline to almost 300HP. |

You also see more NA/NB's because there was technology developed for them and over time it drove the price down and increased the selection. Today you see even more because the methods are there and the cars are dead cheap. NC's are too new. |

The thought behind the rear mount system was CARB legal issues, but it was going to be too hard to mass produce. Stephanie |

My 93 miata cost me 4k. My stupidity cost me 2500 for a built motor. I've spent a total of roughly 14k on the car total including the purchase price. Based on all that.. I still have not "paid" for an NC. That is probably the #1 reason ;) A turbo NC is probably starting to get into Z06 range.
