Turbo Prep?
So i was on youtube the other day and i heard that you could put around 7psi on a stock Miata motor as the guy said the blocks are "Bulletproof" is this true cool and if not what mods am i looking at to get ready for a 7-9 pound turbo?

Well strapping a turbo to it and just putting it at 7psi prolly wont work terribly well.
I do recommend using the serch function, its a very handy tool and you can find post after post that will answer your question in much greater detail then i care to. But to answer your question in a nutshell yes our motors are bullet proof, i suggest you buy a ebay gt35r and an ebay manifold, no need for a fuel system here our stock systems are good for anything u can throw at them, now install your turbo kit turn your timming up to about 20 degrees and set her at about 18psi results will be shocking. |
I found out
So when i took apart my valve cover today i found out that the cams have been reground and upped on the intake side :) I have no idea what else this car had done to it now will have to look further into it!
|
you found that out by looking at the cams?
and i promise you i could blow a 1.6L in seconds in various ways too. but it is stout to a certain extent. |

Yeah, I could blow up a bone stock 1.6 if I had to, but compared to other engines out there it does take boost well. Lots of guys running upper 200's on stock bottom end 1.8's.

nice find on the regrinds if its true. I got lucky on a "replacement head" for my 1.6 120 bucks shipped and it came with hks 256s in it. im sure it was prolly from someone on here and they are prolly not happy lol. got it off ebay about ayear or so ago. cams sold on ebay for 400 bucks about 6 months later when i put my 1.8 in.

:(
The cams are indeed reground we can tell by the hash marks and the after market springs... But that was cool and all so we put the new gasket on and i took it for a spin went to pick a bud up and when i can back out my trany was stuck in reverse in neutral position it is still in reverse so it is at the tranny shop now :( Hope it is not going to be too expensive

You know you can buy a used transmission in good shape for 150$ and install it yourself. 17mm, 14mm, 12mm sockets, 14mm wrench, couple extensions, swivel socket, breaker bar and elbow grease. That tranny shop already charged you for diagnosing the problem which will be at least 1 hour (80-100$ depending). If you cant change a transmission then i seriously doubt you would be up for a turbo.

Looks like the only fix is dropping the tranny, splitting the gearbox apart and replacing the shifter arm.
