turbo project
Hey guys I have a 1992 NA and I am trying to make it turbo...untill now this is what I have...
-Turbo internal wastegate 8psi T3/T4 Hybrid Turbo charger .57 Compressor Wheel Trim Mapped for High/Low Boost Set ups 1/8 NPT Oil Inlet Oil fitting gaskets & Mounting studs included Capable of 450+HP and Well Balanced Wet float Bearings 3" Inlet w/ 2" Outlet .50 A/R Compressor HOusing .63 A/R turbine Housing -Intercooler and Piping 27x7x2.5 2.25- inlet and outlet 2.25 piping -Engine stock internals block .040" with flat pistons (dont know the compression right know but u can have a guess) -Rx7 flowmeter -1.8 flywheel, clutch, pressure plate -I need to know if these are what I need... -12:1 fuel regulator -fuel pump or stock fuel pump works? -I have 1.8 injectors ( I am not planing to go more than 8psi do I need bigger injectors?) -What kind of spark plugs will work for me and the gap? -and if my ignition works or do I have to change it to an MSD of Neon? I will aprecciate any comments Thank u guys!!!! |

With that turbo running 8 psi is a waste of time, they shine after 10 and especially at 15 psi or more. At 8 psi you definitely need bigger injectors and fuel pump, it is going to push so much air the stock fuel system will not work. A 12.1 rrfpr is an overkill, see if you can get one that you can adjust. About the RX7 AFM is a good choice, I would recommend that before going turbo to learn to set one naturally aspirated, the same thing with the fuel pump. Buy one from EBAY, usually around 80 bucks generic. Trust me I got a cheapo EBAY fuel pump 255 and delivers fuel easy with no problema. But you have touched a subject that many turbo (well we are in miataturbo) enthusiasts are very sensitive and will suggest something "much better" and that is to get rid of the afm, go full standalone with a MSPNP and call it a day. My two cents, larger injectors, 255 fuel pump, BEGI fuel regulator or a MSPNP. Other things to consider is the power to wheel management, in other words, clutch/pressure plate, solid motor mounts for wheel hop, strut bars, struts etc. And yes suspension makes a huge difference. Do not forget the wideband (AEM or Innovate) and for spark plugs, NGK iridium 7 usually run like 7 to 8 dollars on Amazon, worth every penny. |
Megasquirt hands down, its dirt simple on an NA theres no excuse not to run it.
also, have you upgraded to a 94+ differential? |
yes my transmission and differential are from 1997 miata NB...
|
Get rid of the AFM, by a megasquirt, and run your car on MAP.

what exactly are your power goals? (a boost level is not a power goal) also, what manifold are you planning to use? |
psiturbo is over-recommending fuel pump size. Plenty of people run stock fuel pumps on eight or more psi. IF your stock pump is weak or bad a Walbro 190 would flow as much as you could use at 3 times that boost level. And the 255 will overpower the stock FPR if you use a megasquirt.
+1 on upgrading rear differential. |
Ok, I dont know how much boost the stock internals will tolerate can you give me a number?
also I will buy -the fuel pump 255lph -adjustable regulator 1 to 1 -bigger injectors (what size???) I cant but the megasquirt because I dont have the money and these parts I can buy cheap... I have strut bar, eibach suspension, new gabriel rear shocks originals and the front ones are KYB, torque damper new motor mounts, prosport wideband and boost gauge...etc :D I aprecciate everything ur telling me guys, glad u can help me!!! |

You still havent told me your plans for a manifold |

Stock internals are good for about 240-250 whp. Injectors I'll go with 460/550 rx7 (there's a list of all you can use in the DIY section). Also you can built your own MS for less than $300 and will be much more better than the band-aids. |
well I have a cast iron manifold without the hole for a wastegate...because I bought that manifolf with a t3/t4 vclamp turbo form a friend...what do you think?

Who manufactured the manifold??
+1 on pics. Post them up |
Ok conclusion dont do anything without a megasquirt? right?
but...before the megasquirt I NEED= -RX7 450 injectors -fuel pump 255 lph -1 to 1 adjustable regulator -turbo -manifold -38mm wastegate -blow off -intercooler and piping did I leave anything? thanx a lot guys ur the best !!!! |

If you want to go the MS route, then first install the MS and your WB, fuck with it, learn it, master so you dont run into problems once youre boosted. Then install the injectors, no need for FPR with MS. Then again tune the bigger injectors to flow correctly with the stock engine. Once everything is running correctly you install your turbo. Bottom line MS>WB>INJECTORS>BOOST PS: DO NOT BUY AN EGAY EWG!!! |
Forgive my ignorance what is:
-WB? -AN EBAY EWG? and I aprecciate ur comments, u all insist that I get the megasquirt so it must be the best way to go...I will buy it and then install my turbo... question= do I install my 450 injectors and try to set them with the megasquirt to my stock engine? and I am going for 10psi no more, my car is everyday use :D |

About the injectors, yes you installed them after you get the MS running correctly to your stock motor. Then you install the X injectors and make sure they flow correctly to avoid tuning problem once your in boost. Also if you run into a problem after you install your turbo you know is not the MS nor the injectors as they were working fine before you did the install. Also when you talk about your goal avoid talking in PSI, talk in power level (i.e 200whp, 220whp etc...) |
Thank you all guys...my power level would be 200whp... I would go with a Tial wastegate
