Turbo Rebuild Question/Confusion..
So I started the rebuild of my td04h-15g and I ran into a situation.
It doesn't seem to have one of the two O-ring's (missing #10) . There is absolutely no evidence of one being there. I understand that sometimes the o-rings can breakdown, but can they be completely removed through time and leave no trace? Is that a "thing"? Also, the rebuild kit I purchased comes with the O-ring (#10), and it doesn't fit at all. I've tried working in there multiple ways, its a no go. (Haven't tried cooling o-ring to get it to fit, if that would work) Arrow is pointing to where the O-ring should be. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e19ba52a54.jpg This is the parts diagram I've been following. (Maybe this is wrong?) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...7b2470ca1b.png Should I just reassemble without the O-ring? Or have any of you rebuilt one of these before? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Also I'll be at work today, so I wont be able to respond until later today.) |
It doesn't go in the groove right below the one you gave marked with an arrow? And no, that oring cant really disappear w/o a trace.

looking at pics from when I did mine, I don't recall anything being there.

Actually have another question.
While piecing it back together, and also running out of time, I got to this point. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...f1be60fc95.jpg - Everything is centered and spins freely in this position. - Gap is consistent all the way around. - Could possibly close distance by using large (rubber) hammer and applying force evenly. - Can also try to sand more of the corrosion away, but most of it's already been cleaned off. - Collar goes around this, but doesn't seem to 'close' the gap. Is this supposed to have this gap or do these two surfaces have a flush mate? Just want to know before I go and try to get them to mate flush and maybe break something.. |
They're tight, I beat the hell out of mine with a mallet, evenly. There will be what appears to be a small gap which is actually a chamfer, but from what I recall, that gap is way too big. Pretty sure the turbine housing face should bottom out on the center section.

I did some research last night, and what you said aligns with what I found.
The gaps supposed to about 1/2 of the one pictured, so time to start swinging. Thanks for the useful tips! |
