Default Cost of your setup

I was just wondering if some of you guys could post an approximate cost of parts, custom fab, and any labor you had to pay someone else during the process from start to finish. TQ/HP numbers would be nice, but I just wanna know if a DIY setup can be done for a "reasonable" amount.

Personally I think $3500 is "reasonable" for a DIY setup.

My original setup was cheaper, more diy, and less efficient. Here's a basic breakdown of where I'm at now:
Manifold & DP : ~$900 - BEGi
Turbo : ~$200 - eBay
Intercooler & Piping : ~$200 - Secondhand J i m B setup plus a few other bits and pieces
Bosch BOV : ~$25 - eBay
Various oil/water fittings : ~$100
eManage Blue, Greddy MAP, Ignition Harness, Support Tool : ~$400 - eBay
365cc Injectors : ~$50 - eBay

Total: ~~~~~~~$1900
I don't recall the exact costs, so I estimated high. My first setup was about $1000 cheaper as I used an Apexi SAFC($200), SSAutochrome manifold ($50) and made my own DP. Then I spent $250 on a better DP, which still left me under $1500. Finally, I decided that BEGi's Manifold and DP were way to nice to pass up which put me over $1500. Fortunately, I've sold the pieces that I've upgraded, which saved me a few hundred dollars.

I figure I'm into my setup for around $2700cnd. That includes:

Greddy Turbo Kit
Starion and piping
Heat sheild
fuel pump
BEGI AFPR
1.8 injectors
4 wire O2
Emanage Blue w/autotune including all harnesses GM 2bar Map and support tool
Change out to all silicone hose and t-bolt clamps

I also sold a couple of items I got with the kit initally, the vortec, bipes and FM o2 clamp. I also traded an old trunk lid for 1.8 injectors, 4 wire o2 and a couple of other minor things. I traded the stock exhaust + $50 for the BEGI.

I think I've done alright, everything I got was used with the exception of the fuel pump.

I should be good for 12psi in the current configuration and would estimate that about 180whp. I think with slightly larger injectors I could probably get up to near 200whp. I'm running about 9psi right now until I get my wideband. Even at 9psi it is great value for the dollar.

I didn't include new clutch in this, as I had already done a SPEC clutch/flywheel combo. I didn't include mainatnece items either (fuel filter, new plugs ...), I would think on top of what I listed for price maybe throw in another $100 for things like fuel line, fittings and what not.

I think $3500usd would be reasonable providing you get some deals and buy lots of used bits.

Mine: https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3295
The total is probably about $3400, + $320 for clutch. Probably another 5-600 for a rear end.....

My above list works out to about $2300 usd, which includes a lot of shipping expense to Canada and getting **** by UPS at least 2 times. :(

The biggest thing I've come to discover is that the turbo "kit" will really nickle and dime you. Everytime I went to the parts store for something I spent $100.

Still less than anything that FM or BEGI sells, and less than an entry level JRSC kit. Granted I've had my share of head aches that I probably wouldn't have encountered if I had gone with the alternatives.

Lol, it doesn't matter to me... I know parts/costs are going to vary between the two engines, but I'm only asking for an approximate figure anyway

I definitely plan on buying a lot of used parts... I'm getting a 14B w/ O2 housing, j-pipe, SMIC and the lower I/C piping for $175 so I'm getting off on the right foot with my setup. Don't worry about including the clutch either, I don't count that as a part of my budget. It will be installed within a few weeks afterward, but it's not part of my turbo budget

Replacement Turbo -$400
Exhaust work -$100
Vortech FMU -$100
1.8 injectors -$45
Various silicone $ supplies -$200
DIY MBC -$15
Rx7 AFM -$50
Bipes ACU -$200
Bruce's O2 Clamp -$60
K&N Filter -$30

=$2580 then......

Replacment Engine -$500 + $300 friendly labor -$800
Peirburg Pump -$130
290cc Injectors -$50
Clutch -$333
Flywheel -$300
BEGi Manifold & Downpipe -$675

=$2288

sold....

J/R Header +$250
1.6 injectors +$40
Intercooler +$50
Other odds & ends +$100

$4868 - $440 = $4428 (I recommend spending WAY too much on a POS used DIY kit and spending more to replace parts on it. I also recommend blowing your engine on your first test drive. This will make things expensive and frustrating and you can be cool like me!)

I bought the tec3 for another car 3 years ago but ill add that anyway
I've traded my ic piping, manifold and dp's welding and fabrication in the price of a car i just sold so ill put an approx value.

Used Garrett GT28R with fittings, lines and outlet adapters $500
Pulsar GTi-R 444cc injectors $0/free (that was my old car that i upgraded)
Pulsar GTi-R tmic, free but it cost me $50 to get one of the end tanks swaped around)
Tec3 ecu $2200
RM tec3 trigger kit and extra sensors $378 (if it ever effing comes )
RX7 FD3S fuel pump $0/free

Items i dont have as yet:
Custom semi equal manifold ~$400
Custom 2.5" dp and side exit exhaust ~$400
Couplers and clamps $50Some odd fittings and teh misc file ~$250
WB02 $180
Ebay f1 racing 1.6 cerametalic clutch $170
Fidanza 1.6 flywheel $294

Total $4872

If i were to have gone emanage, o2 clamp etc it would have only costed around $3300

I included the price of my link since that IS my fuel management. I didn't include stuff like the oil cooler and associated fittings, radiator, fans, MSD ign, pp & clutch... only the stuff that's required for the turbo.

t3/t4 turbo - $350
SSA ss header - $50
turbo oil parts - $32
DP/IC tubing & flanges - $180
welding supplies - $30
Injectors - $200
intercooler - $235
fuel pump - $gift
Link ecu - $600
FM chip - $125
Air temp sensor - $110
Knock sensor - $10
EBC - $gift
BOV - $40
T clamps - $48
IC hose - $42
--------------
total $2092 - that's minus the supra fuel pump and EBC AND doesn't include my first chinese turbo ($400) which failed me.

Wow, I wasn't expecting everyone to do a part-by-part cost list. Thanks!

BTW, m2cupcar, where on earth did you grab a Link for $600???

There are deals to be had on used Links, but they're far and few between. I've literally only seen a handful of them for sale the past year for a decent price. If that's what you're after, check the classifieds and ebay daily. I bought mine for 550 plus injectors. This was by far the best deal I've had on my setup.

Yeah, I was about to give up on finding a Link, as the best deals I've seen were like $800-900, but I'll definitely keep my eyes open for them now
