Turbo selection advice...
Hey guys have a 1.8 miata and I am in the progress of piecing together a turbo system. I was wondering the opinion of you knowledgeable folk about this turbo: Nissan SR20DET s13 Garrett T25 Turbo sr20 Silvia | eBay
I am seeking about 220hp on 92 octane. The mods that are done are: Aluminum rad + high flow fans coolant reroute MSPNP2 In progress FM stage 1 Clutch + flywheel. Have: begi cast manifold Coming up: RX8 injectors Walbro pump And of course intercooler piping begi DP and probably full 3 inch exhaust Thanks in advance for your knowledge and help. |
Price is 100$-150$ too high.

I'm not saying it's not but, would this make the power I'm looking for? I'm not in desperate need of the turbo... Yet.
|
If you would have searched you would have known that the answer is yes.

Very popular unit for a basic build and the power you are looking for. Try to find one that already has the adaptors, all things equal.

These I guess -
Turbo Compressor Inlet Outlet Adapter Flange Nissan RB26DET GT R T25 GT28 GT25 | eBay If you search hard enough you can get it cheaper. S13 adapters force you to route the IC piping a certain way. |
Thank you for all of the answers to those of you who didn't just say go search for it. I have tried and most of my results ended up not giving me quite the answer I was looking for as I am not familiar with these turbos and am learning as I go. Every time I end up searching m24 there are quite a few different sizes and unfortunately that leads to answers that aren't quite what I am looking for.

if you are searching for "m24" you are so clueless that you shouldn't be buying anything for a long time. You should be learning
For a long time. |
Then what would you suggest for a search? As it's stamped right on it M24...

garrett t25 adapter
|
I think we where talking two different things there... I thought you where referencing the initial post. However I was unsure if DNMakinson was referring to some other type of adapter. I already knew I would need to purchase adapters to make it work for my application.
I'm not trying to be ignorant I'm just trying to gain knowledge hence open ended questions as apposed to just saying Nissan sr20 turbo flange adapters. Also quick edit I could have just search sr20 turbo on here but my mind never drew that conclusion for some reason. |
18 and I are talking the same thing. I don't know what you do and do not know.

Turbo selection advice...
M24 is not a model number and means nothing of significance. That's one thing.
The unit is a t25 variety of turbo, of which there are many flavors. Certain models require inlet and outlet adapters on the compressor housing, which I personally dislike because of additional cost, complexity, and failure points, but they work fine. Many t25 series turbos are 2554 or 2560 models, of which there are also many variations. Many of the turbos in that series will work, but some may work better or fit better than others with the setup that you are designing. Trim values for the wheels and housing A/R numbers will make a difference in how the unit performs. |
Yes thank you I'm aware. I think where my confusion comes in is A/R values. But I've basically been using BEGI and flyinmiata's suggested turbos and comparing. Which I feel is a fair strategy.
And DNMakinson that is a completely fair statement. In retrospect I kinda set myself up for a bit of a salty response. I feel that I've done my homework to gain a strong enough understanding of how everything works and what components are necessary to make the entire package work for my car. This is why I'm not in a massive rush to complete the entire build. Maybe I should start a build thread... It seems they are quite a bit more well received. |
Thank you for the help though.

well all aspire to have a garrett, or an EFR, BUT.... if you need something now, and want to save for a new turbo, just get the china turbo from Bell, save cash then sell you china turbo and buy a new garrett or anything to your liking
