Turbo sizing question

I've read a little bit, searched, but I figured I might as well post up. Be easy, I'm young and dumb when it comes to this stuff.

I've got a 1990 that I'm looking to do a decently cheap DIY turbo build on. I'm looking for low boost (maybe a max of 9 psi) but something that spools really quick and smooth. I'm not looking for massive HP gains, just something to make it a bit more fun. So as far as junkyard turbos, or pull offs, what turbo should I be looking for.

The first thing that came to my mind would be something like a a T25, if I'm correct its got a lot of manifolds available and can be pulled from turbo eclipse's (and its the sr20det, factory turbo to isn't it?), and a couple of other cars.

Is that a good choice of turbo? or any other suggestions? I'll post up later on DIY checklist of the stuff I have, and what I'm looking at, but right now I'm just looking for as much info as I can get before I start trying to put stuff together. Thanks Guys.

Heres a realitivly simple low cost boost set-up for about 6-8 psi of boost and its safe as long as you don't go boost crazy:

1-8:1 vortech fmu
2-1.8 injecters
3-bell manifold with t2 or t3 flange
4-t25 from a SR or t3 from saab vehicle
5-saab IC ,rx7 IC,or a starion IC
6-190lph walboro pump
7-2.5 inch downpipe leading into 2.5 exhaust sytem(helps the turbo spool)
8-boost gauge,egt gauge,a/f gauge,oil temp guage
9-A blow-off valve ...type-s still rules lol
10- oil return lines(stailess steel perferebly)
11-one step colder ngk plugs
12-manacore wires are a nice add
13-10-30 mobil synthetic oil(highly recommed it)
14-A manual boost controller helps

Thats basically it, anyone see anything missing in this list...feel free to add..

If you do go with the sr turbo and bell manifold, be sure to get both the inlet and outlet elbows for the turbo.

hmmm, my friend has an 18x6x3 intercooler, a type-s bov (I think), and some random piping that he said he would sell for pretty cheap...I've got a 2.5" test pipe and full catback so thats covered. Where would I find the manifold? I've never heard of it.

Any idea where I'd reach full boost w/ a t25?

way before you will realy need it bell is Bell engineering they are a sponsor on m.net and they make some nice stuff Reev2red or braineck has one of htere new manifold and seems quite pleased with it. Last december i ws in your situationas well. and now I am quite surprised with how far i have gone with a little cash and enginuity.

Read the thread in the DIY section titled "New project begun... guru's look here." I'm assembling the exact system you describe. I'm trying to cover every aspect of the build in that one thread. I think for a beginner, it will answer almost all of your "beginner" questions. Rican is right with me and has a nearly identical setup... we're kinda learning this thing together. Seriously, read through that entire thread and see if it answers some of your questions or sparks new thought. I had totally forgotten about gaskets until just a couple hours ago and I've been researching this for months. Welcome to forum.

Thanks guys. I'll be sure to check those out.

I think this is going to be tougher than I thought. Hehe, oh well.

Where would be the best place to source a T25 from an SR? Ebay...or like nissan sites?

EBAY IS YOUR BEST BET, start looking there, thats where im pretty much buying everything I need, Bells new manifold is a beautiful piece of work...there's a typ-s bv on ebay up for grabs, The turbo should be a quick spooler.

Wait...so I do need the factory inlet/outlet pipes on the factory SR turbo...

what saab vehicle did the t3 come from...a friend of mine who owns a saab said they only have a td04, t25, or t28.
