Turbo inlet filter or screen?

I've always run AEM/Injen/K&N filters on past applications for the turbo inlet, but I've seen more and more builds where simple mesh screens are being used. Would the flow be that much better using a screen while staying safe? Or should I just use a filter like I always have?

If you actually care about the health of your turbo and your engine, you'll use a filter.

Actually the only times I've seen screens is on
1) full on race cars
2) to show off

I ran a screen on my 3076R. it was for pictures/photoshoots only

I wonder if the screen just over the end of the round pipe flows any better than a large pleated filter. Intuition tells me no and I'm way too lazy to do the math.

I saw a mustang drag car lose 70rwhp on the dyno due to a shitty wire mesh screen on the charger.

I'm sure creating a whole bunch of turbulence right before the compressor wheel does a LOT of good for a turbo...

Honestly, I'd be wary of placing anything over the compressor intake without knowing that it had electrolytes.

You should always run a filter.

I'm running a Amsoil dry filter, a huge one, on my miata. The published pressure drops for it show that a 500hp NA engine will loose 4hp due to the pressure drop vs no air filter at all. FWIW.
