TurboTim's Dyno video...

Not sure if you guys have seen his dyno video...but if not here is the link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu9NnVNKfyU

For those that dont know this setup runs twin GT15 turbos and a link ecu.

I have a couple questions for tim if hes up for it.

1. What gear did you dyno in?
2. How much power did it make?
3. How much boost was run?

If I ever get another miata I think I want to do this twin turbo kit on it. Something about having twin GT15 turbos seems cool to me. Sure its more work for the same result as a single turbo....but its cooler. It seems like this thing spools super fast in the video, and it sounds sick. Just wanted you guys to see it.

I know, I feel the same way. I think that is such a sweet setup. I would rather have 2 Gt15's than one GT2860R...;)

Looks like he made 160 something torque, 202 hp. Hard to say though. Seems like the scenic route to 200whp if you ask me.

There is the dyno chart. I believe that was on 9-10psi or something along those lines. It may be "scenic" but its a lot more neat than a plain and simple GT2560R...its a very nice looking kit and it doesnt even appear cluttered like you would expect it to. I have always thought Tim's setup was super clean and very interesting.

I agree its rather freakin cool

PaKMaN 11-24-2006 01:26 PM

Props! Most dyno pulls are done in 3rd gear unless you're in the 4 digit #'s.

My favorite under-hood to stare at.

Nice vid too..

really? Most cars I've dynoed and seen dynoed were done in the 1:1 gear, usually being 4th on a 5spd or 5th on a 6spd.

F20turbo 11-24-2006 01:38 PM

I think he was in 3rd gear, it seems like a 4th gear pull would have taken longer. But thats why I asked him what gear it was.:)

And just so you know most dynos are done in the gear thats closest to a 1:1 ratio and thats 4th on a miata. Some people dyno in 3rd so that the pull doesnt last as long but youll usually make more power in a 4th gear pull.

plus dont turbo cars build more boost in higher gears?

tabs604 11-24-2006 01:46 PM

awesome!!!

not if you have a wastegate that can handle it. But in higher gears there is a possability for more boost since the engine is working harder ( more load ) and staying in boost longer as well.

Thats hot!

magnamx-5 11-24-2006 02:42 PM

I dyno in 4th that twin setup is sweet,

Braineack 11-24-2006 04:35 PM

oh yeah, i posted that on youtube and forgot to post the rest of the videos i wanted to. That pull was in 3rd, he did one in 4th and it took forever, 18sec and 121mph. (207hp / 191tq)

HMMM. Looks about the same #s as the third gear graph

JDMAflac 11-24-2006 05:38 PM

any pics on this thing?

Braineack 11-24-2006 05:42 PM

go to "dyno day pics" in the BS section. or "another twin turbo miata"

TurboTim 11-24-2006 08:31 PM

Aww shucks. You guys make me smile!

That video is in 3rd gear. There is a higher-resolution version on the dyno-day link braineack posted. The dyno graph is above. it was at 10psi dropping to 9psi. I didn't realize it was only that psi, it runs 12-13 on the street. I think the compination of starting at 2000rpm, the quick spool of the turbos, and the slow acceleration of the dyno resulted in the wastegates opening differently????? I only realized the low PSI on the second to last run, and the manual boost controller was too hot to handle.

I did do a 4th gear run, same basic power numbers.

However I do not run a Link ECU, I run the AEM EMS. My Link ECU is FOR SALE HERE :)

It is a nice setup, but I want a lotta power like the ghettocharger and others (maybe a trade Andy?). Maybe I'll redo it next year, gut the A/C and P/S and put one huge snail under there. If I were to do TT again (anyone?? hehe) I would choose different turbos (bigger! Maybe two GT2554's??), now that I know it's possible to package it and it actually works decently. I didn't want to go crazy on expensive turbos just to find out the thing wouldn't spool!

The most difficult thing is getting stable boost control. Either they spool quick but lose boost after peaking, or slowly (relatively speaking...) spool and hold peak pressure.
