Tweak of leave my hands off? (WTF?)

So my car went 14.0 on Saturday with my friends G-tech which he says is always a tenth of a second slower than what he runs at the track no matter what car he uses. Anyway that was with my current setup, my street tires, with a stock clutch, and that clutch was slipping in 2nd and 3rd. So I figure if I put a good clutch in it and launch on my drag radials I'd run like a 13.7? Somewhere around there. So my car is super dependable, and I'll satisfied with a 13 second timeslip, but should I demand more? This never ends...if I can make it run 12's, I'll want 11's...if I can get 11's I'll want 10's, should I be happy with what I have which is great street manners and reliability? Or should I continue with my obsession and blow more money and break a lot of stuff for another second in the quarter mile?

so, you ran a 14.0 on 7psi?

thirdgen 05-05-2008 03:15 PM

Yeah, 14.0. That was with a really smooth launch (no tire spin or wheel hop) and the clutch (which is stock) slipped a little in 2nd and and 3rd. I am running 7psi with a voo-doo box with my Air/fuel at 11.5, with no timing retard, which I think the timing makes a world of difference. I didn't think I'd be able to not retard my timing, but I am running 93 octane, and it is intercooled.

if you want your car to be faster - make it faster. If you're happy with the way it is, leave it alone.

^ right.

If you like it the way it is, then leave it. If not, change it.

take a shit on the voodoo and get an MS that way you keep your timing and be even more dependable and have room to grow...

I can't say I recommend this.

Is this because drag radials are stickier and you are more likely to break stuff, or?

Can you elaborate?

read the last thread he started.

power is addicting, that said i'm pretty sure i'm done with mine, most of my efforts will go to improving driveability and economy, reason being once you get in the middle 200s traction becomes an issue. and the miata isn't really much fun as a highway car where you could really put more power to use.
