Update on the Ebay T3/T4 with V-Band

So from a week or two ago, I said I purchased this turbo:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_5222wt_939

Some people had doubts about the downpipe clearing, and im happy to say it does. It is not optimal (the bend out of the turbine housing) But it works well.

Please ignore the shit welds, all I have to work with is a Harbor Freight Flux Core! They are structurally in tact tho.

The mani is a BEGI unit.

Spool is ok, laggy but hits hard which is what I like :fawk:

good stuff man. how much better do you think the downpipe clearance would be if it was welded to the flange instead of on v bands? is that a 3" downpipe?

a TON better, but i wanted V band. It is 2.5" That transitions to a 3" at the transmission.

So someone clear this up for me once and for all cause I see that almost everyone here (with an internally gated churbo) has a downpipe that is fairly small (2"-2.5") that TRANSITIONS into 3" and eventually dumps into a 3" exhaust:

isn't that 2-2.5 bottleneck right after the turbo and before the 3" making the whole exhaust basically 2.5"? Isn't your exhaust as free flowing as its most restrictive section? Or is that logic not applied in this specific case?

I want to know cause its almost impossible to have a 3" COMPLETE downpipe with an internally gated turbo. (in fact I'm pretty sure its not)

Looks like you had another inch to work with IF you wanted to decrease the drop/radius of the exit from the wg housing.

Lol right on man. Miata's are known for top end! Great for highway
How's it perform? Stock internals?

If that were the case wouldn't it be like saying that since the turbine exit is only something like 2" we'd have a 2" exhaust? just saying...

Thanks for the update on this! How much boost are you running? Are you seeing any creep or any other boost control weirdness? I'm considering going this route with the Ebay cast manifold and churbo with the internal/v-band.

Turbo_4 05-23-2010 11:38 AM

Man, I don't know how you were able to make that fit with the vband. On mine, I sliced off the vband and welded the begi downpipe to the hole. Looks good!

cardriverx 05-23-2010 12:34 PM

around 11 psi for the moment. I'm still dialing in the ms2 boost control, but so far so good, holds great.

That DP will never bottleneck your flow.

You're right, it is almost impossible with our setups. To answer your question; as long as the diameter eventually increases to 3" or whatever it is you're looking for, you'll be ok. What's NOT ok is an ACTUAL bottleneck. Example: you have a 2.5" DP leading to a 2"(or 3"!) cat/mp to a 2.5" muffler.... not good. As long as there is an increase throughout, you're good to go.

Except you answered it incorrectly and you obviously have little grasp on exhaust flow.

:brain: :2cents: :noob:

what is going on in my thread lol.

Iroquois Pliskin 09-02-2010 01:51 PM

Dunno... some n00b came in and caused viperormiata to post a pic of men in tights, which eventually made Braineack go full retard, with his little knowledge of exhaust flow:giggle:
