Bringing this back in hopes of slight motivation to get the car back to DD status again.

I actually decided to take the time to work on the miata today and the first order of business was the burnt up leaking coolant hose.

Anyone know which part number this particular hose is?

I'm wondering what the best way is to put it back together and prevent this from happening again. Maybe get another OEM hose and heat wrap it? Make my own hose with generic heater hose and couplers?

The 2nd picture is where the dp was touching and finally ate through the hose. I had no idea it was even happening, so those of you with a similar setup may want to take a peak at that heater hose.

I'll take a Picture of my setup, they're wrapped and it might work for you too. In the end you'll want a heat shield too.

Hey vash, I had the same issue with my greddy kit. After frying the hose i took it off, went to the local vato-zone or equivalent and asked to look at their heater hoses. I went in the back and found one that had a similar bend, but that didn't stick out as far, then i wrapped it in exhaust heat wrap secured with wire. When installed it had over an inch of open air space, and was wrapped in heat wrap - so i doubt its going to fail anytime soon at least.

Hope that helps or gives you some ideas.

The dp fell back a bit when I unbolted it, it usually doesn't touch.

I simply wrapped my heater hoses, then zip-tied them together. Doing this pulls the right one up towards the left and thus away from the DP.

Wrap it and put a metal heat shield in between them and never worry about it again. Still thinking about going green?

Curly thanks for the pics. I'm thinking that's what I'll do. When I go to the parts place next (probably tmr) I'll grab some length of hose and hopefully wrap if they have it. If not, I'll order it and wrap it later on.

I have a heat shield but it doesn't separate the hose like the one pictured above. It was meant for a FM kit and I hacked it up to make it fit. Most of the back where the dp is doesn't have anything left to it. Maybe time to make one.....hmmmmm

Not going to go green lol. I've decided to keep it black/blue for now. If I change anything this year its going to be the rear bumper. I'd like to get some nice seats, but I'm so ------- dirty after work it'd be pointless. They wouldn't make it a week.

I hope to get the car back as my DD, as well as fix the overheating issue I've been having for the past year. Maybe back to the dyno to go over my tune and get numbers again. Other than that I just want to drive it again.

Yeah, if it's only a side and/or top shield, it's fairly useless. The main things you wanna protect are in the back, with the heater lines and MC.

The big shield is quite nice. My hood above the turbo is cooler than my intake side and so is my filter.

Vash, dunno what you've done in the last two months, but now that I have your exact setup, here's the clearance now:



There's a good 2.5" from the DP to the 90* fitting in the water line, and a little over 3" from the turbine housing to the water line by the shock mount.

Yeah, unfortunately, I've been slacking on the miata.

I just haven't had the time to work on it, but yet I've had the heater hose for over a month now and still didn't order the fire sleeve. I cant make up my mind on what to wrap the hose with. Once I order that I'm pretty much set.

Thanks man! I miss driving this thing everyday.

Hopefully soon I've have it buttoned up and back on the road. I will then make a trip back to the dyno to get my new (old) numbers with my ARTech hotside parts.

Well today is the day I try and fire the miata back up.

Battery is charged, alternator parts replaced, heater hose replaced and wrapped with fire sleeve and everything is cleaned up (minus the engine bay).

Today I just need to add coolant and gas. If all goes well I'll be taking it over to the welding shop to have the exhaust flanges cut and fixed shortly thereafter.

My biggest issue is going to be getting the car re-registered, pass emissions, then change to early american plates.

---- green, blue ftw. You better have this thing running again, so much money thrown into it and no enjoyment. I just got mine back to DD status after about 1 year of sitting, and goddamn is it worth it.
