LC1, in his sig. And that's the default range for it.

but he also has a megasquirt, so if you hooked the (yellow) 0-1v output into the MS, it would do just that.

Same thing I was going through with my 2560 and 3" exhaust. You should be able to fix with the die grinder. Good luck.

Hey Tim, where are the pics from that day that your wife took?

Hey Braineack, maybe it's time to add to the DIY TURBO FAQ

If you plan to run a full 3" exhaust with a GT2554R, GT2560R,(list others) you should enlarge and smooth the wastegate opening to avoid boost creep.

I'm only going to touch the opening surroundings not the actual hole...wow that sounds good...I'll let you guys know if it works.

She took a lot. Here's a few. Notice no "wall" cast into the housing.

Ok guys, I grinded the hell out of the wastegate opening and inside the cavity of the turbo (wastegate opening surroundings) and the problem is solved!!
I also grinded a notch into the DP flange where the wastegate hits so it opens more, this makes it open 1/4" more.
I only get 7psi at full throttle!!!
Thanks to everyone.
Now its time to figure the WB out.

Awesome!

Since I am having the same problems with my 2560, are there any other ways to fix this other than grinding on the turbo? I am mechanically inclined, but I don't want to take a grinder to my new turbo if I can help it. I am running the FM midpipe and turbo exhaust and have loads of boost creep as well.

TurboTim 01-13-2008 10:18 PM

Sure. Lower the efficiency of your setup by placing a restriction somewhere...for example use a tiny air filter or weld a 2" restrictor in your exhaust. I think paul was able to lower his boost by wrapping half of his air filter with duct tape.

Good luck. If you take the turbine housing off make sure you dont' nick any blades.

I dont know if a smaller exhaust would help that much. Before I built my 3" exhaust (last week I had a 2.25") I was still getting 10 + psi.

About grinding my brand new gt2554, I didnt even hesitate on doing the grinding, after all I'm making work the way it should and I assure I spent a lot of time on making it smooth. Start with a carbide burr and then finish with stone bits, make sure you have different shapes that contour the path.
The transitions are actually smoother than factory. I also port matched the turbo to the Begi manifold, and I port matched the Begi mani to the engine head, also grinded the DP and it looks a lot nicer than before, all those welds are now smooth and nice.

Dam, something else I gotta worry bout now...I am SOL w/ no grinder or exp... I have the 2560 w/ the same issue... Corky didnt believe me, I sent him the upper DP back as well as my turbine housing, and he made it all nice nice...But my WG doesnt open more than that 3/4" range...
And Im dreading the thought of having to remove everything after the hell it was to install...
Hopefully, Corky got it done real good & i wont have this issue, but the thought sucks...

AWESOME to hear u resolved it nicely! Congrats!

So have you reassembled and tested? I would like to know if Corky's mods worked.

TonyV 02-15-2008 11:05 AM

In the process...all assembled and started, but running like crap right now. Gonna be trying to tune/work out the bugs this weekend...till then haven't been running boost, just vacuum lol...
