Default Bigger Turbo Time

So I am at the point that I am building a new motor and plan on starting to track my car in the fall. The new motor will be M-tuned rods, 84mm Supertech Pistons, and a VVT head with a 99 IM with VICS. So I am on the lookout for a bigger turbo that I can possibly go with V-Bands with in the future. Right now I am running a Begi Stage 1 kit with a T25 off of an SR20 which equates to about a t2554. I am extremely happy with the power it makes and I love the torque curve. Unfortunately there is no Tial V-Band housing for a turbo my size.

The blue and green lines are my setup at 9psi on MS1 when I dynoed down at DIYAutoTune in July of 08. The red lines are the same setup at 10psi this past weekend on MS3. Both were load based dynos so the numbers should be reasonably comparable.

That is Ed's car with a 2560 on an absurdflow setup. I would really like a those type of numbers, yet again no v-band housing for the 2560.

That is Hustlers dyno with a 2860 I believe on an Absurdflow setup.

I am specifically looking at this turbo which should be about the same as Hustlers. So my question is there any other turbos out there that would work with V-bands in the future that would give me a dyno alot like Ed's? It also has to fit my t2 manifold from Begi that I am using now until I can afford to sacrifice a child to TurboTim.

That can't possibly be. He's always boasting that with the absurdflow he's fully spooled in the mid-3K rpm range, and I don't recall the absurdflow crew having the torque fall off like that.

Also, $775 is a tad high IMO for a tater with that many miles on it. That and he's had it listed since November. You should be able to get that down a bit.

It might be Hustlers Begi setup with the 2860. It was one of the graphs I found from him. If it is the Begi setup then it gives me a good view of what I should be expecting.

I do not plan on paying the $775. I will be offering less then that. So far the guy has been very responsive to emails. Recently I have been finding lots of new ones for around $900. I am still amazed that you found yours for so cheap.

That is my old BEGi set-up with the .86 housing. I don't have a good dyno with the AF parts, but its better in every way you can measure.

when you go with the Tial housing you wont be able to use you old manifold, your gonna have to go with a new mani so no ifs ands or butts about it.

Thanks for correcting me.

So thats what I should expect with the 2860 on my Begi setup. How was it driving on the street?

Realistically at most I would only plan on using this setup one or two times on the track in the fall. I will hopefully start doing HPDE's in the fall. So I should have v-bands on long before I get decent enough to have studs stretching.

I am well aware of it. But dropping $700 on a turbo now and using old hardware is much cheaper then TurboTim amazingness now.

I have no complaints from the old set-up as long as you've never driven an AF kit. You won't make it long on the track with hardware problems, but it will get you by on the street.

To get real numbers that would help "shuiend the boifriend" compare properly to foofa, hustlefucker would need to turn up the boost ****, which he won't.

I'm salivating to get my new steed on the rack. I'm dreaming of numbers like foo.

I plan on going with Savingtons studs that he is starting the group by on. So hopefully they hold up for my first few track days until I get V-Bands. As of now I have not driven an AF kit. I am going to refrain from trying one out until I can actually afford one.

Now on the more serious business, Thanks to gospeed81 I am now the proud owner of a GT2871 .86AR. I ended up getting it new for what I was about to pay for the GT2860. So I figure if I can't stand this one I can always resell it and downgrade to the GT2860.

Also anyone have a dyno of a GT2871r on a 1.8L engine with a Begi or FM cast manifold? I am curious what my spool and power should look like.

Congrats on the 2871! What trim? 48, 52, 56...just wondering.

You could always go with a tubular manifold now with a T2 flange, then hacksaw that biach off and weld on a vband flange when the time comes.

I believe it is a 56 trim. Here is a link to the one I got based on the info I have gathered from the guy I bought it from.

While I guess I could get you to make me a tubular manifold, but that is then more money not going to finishing the engine build. So for the time being it will be put on my Begi cast manifold and hopefully sometime in the fall I give you a call and send you a large check for some V-band Absurdflowness.
