WB sensor installation angle

My AEM UEGO installation manual says that the sensor should be installed at +10* from horizontal minimum to prevent water pooling and shorting the sensor. The bung that was factory welded into my Begi downpipe puts the sensor about 10* BELOW horizontal. Is that enough to kill it? If so, I can weld one right on top and clear the tranny, but if I don't HAVE to pull the thing apart to do it, I would prefer to leave it. It looks like they did it to allow the sensor to clear the tranny on the bottom.

So, is this a MUST DO? Am I going to suffer early sensor loss?

Mine's about 20* below horizontal. It was welded in after I built the DP and I didn't want to remove it to do the bung either. :) Works fine for me. What's important is to keep the sensor far enough away as to not overheat it. Sounds like you've got that taken care of.

You're out of post BTW. :fawk::fawk::fawk:

I'm right before the cat, so distance should be good. On the above, read the secret forum thread.:fawk:

I welded a bung on the very top at the 12 o-clock position just to be safe.
I honestly dont think you should have a problem with the way it is already, but I'd still redo it. just my .o2

Self appointed yourself a grace period, ey? Hmm.... By the way, my passengers door unlocks now. Many thanks!

fwiw, my wideband has been working fine for a long time.

Mine's at 12 too- right before the cat. Lots of vertical space in the tunnel. And yeah y8s, I put it there because of all the warnings about angle on the innovate site.

Aw hell, I might as well move it. It's only an hour total and I got a new bung with the WB. At least I know that it will be right.

You'll be able to use that old bung location for dyno WB tuning without having to remove any O2 sensors - just put a plug in it.

Good point. I don't have a spare 18x1.5 mm plug handy but I do have an old narrow band in an old stock ehaust laying around. I can just cut off the wires. Ghetto, but it's what I have on hand.

My wideband has been installed at the 5 o'clock position for three years with no problems.

Hmmm...interesting. I guess I could leave it for now. I have other issues to finish up before I start redoing things that are already done.:)
