welding a 1.8L flange onto greddy manifold..possible??
Ok my crank nose in the 1.6L forced me to swap motors. I now have a 1.8L. Is it possible to get a 1.8L flange welded onto the greddy manifold? Has anybody done that?
I know there is the EDT manifold, but if I was going to spend 450 for it I might as well sell off this kit and get a Begi or something. |

Well I only got the idea because I was looking at solomiata.com
I wanted to keep my 1.6 Racing Beat header because the oxygen sensor would be in the correct location. It's located in the downpipe the 1.8, while the 1.6 has it in the header tubes, so if you use a 1.8 header and the 1.6 downpipe, you'll have no oxygen sensor fitting unless you add one. I cut the flanges off both headers and had the 1.8 flange welded on the 1.6 header tubes by O'Hare Auto Body in Elk Grove Village, IL. |
The manifold is cast, I would not recommend it. It will crack.

sell the greddy and buy another system man.

I know it's not ideal, but isn't this what BEGI does w/ their external wastegate manifolds? I spoke to Corky about this and he said they've never had one fail.
Didn't they do this to Brain's intake manifold too? I know you have to heat it up before welding and heat it again while cooling down. Something about throwing it into sand as well. |

Cast is a bitch to weld because of the high carbon content. It's doable but doing all 4 runners would be a pita, and thats an understatement.
