Thats what I went with. Yeah I know it will lag some, but I like a good punch :drool:. Ill get some pictures up when I get it, and report on build quality.

Grr. I'm excited for the ebay v-banded turbo. They're one step closer with that one.

TBH in a miata that style of vband housing sucks. There just isn't enough room to fit a proper downpipe on a turbo that large, plus it requires that you keep the implements for an internal gate.

IMHO you should have gone with a 50 trim rather than the larger 63 trim compressor, but you'll be happy with the "big bit" :).

indeed, having a bolted flange for the downpipe was a big PITA. This should knock a solid 15 min off turbo removal/install. I have no problem with modifying the rear shelf a little for clearance if needed.

I really wanted to go with an external wastegate, but sending the manifold to BEGI would just take too much time and put me over my budget.

I seriously doubt that you'll be able to fit a 2.5" vband downpipe in there.

This is what a 2.25" downpipe (could be smaller) fits like with a BEGi mani and a 1.6:

That is ground out almost all the way to the edge of the shelf, and it still barely fits. Add in another .25" diameter to the pipe, plus the fact that the vbands themselves will add approximately 3/4" to the total width, you might need to start considering alternatives if you don't want to have to cheat the piss out of the bend (and even then it might not fit).

I have a 2.5" downpipe with a stupid flange setup in there right now, and I got it to fit without messing up exhaust flow. Ill post it up when I get done.

Dang that's tight. Can you even get the downpipe off without pulling the turbo?

This is a pic of the 3" bellmouth downpipe I make for a 1.6/BEGI setup. It fits with typical shelf trimming. For some reason your pic shows seemingly a lot less room, that's strange. The IWG add-on thickness will make things more difficult but it should be doable with a lot of time and at the worst case some pie-cuts.

It fits that tightly because I have a "donut flange" instead of a typical bolt on flange. With that style of v-band adapter, there is even less room than before, with larger piping.

I didn't say it was impossible, but from what I've mocked up, it would be more of a headache that I want to deal with. I ended up going low-mount and saying fuck it.

Edit: Tim, is that a 3" downpipe you make for a t2 turbo by chance? I cant 100% tell, but it looks like it.

You can always cut back the shelf if you need more clearance. The V8 swap crew does that regularly with no ill effects as far as I know.

It wont be here till monday... which means ill be away for FSAE competition. It will be on next weekend.

NVM I didnt realized it was a T3 flange turbo. I haz T2 flange.
