What air filter are you using and why?
I have a cheap one that came from only god knows where and am thinking of going for something a little less knockoff/ebay. Mnetters seem to love k&N filters, evo guys like Perrin foam filters and Amsoil's, and honda guys like to run with chicken wire on their tb's.
So mine is an ebay special (I think) and I am using it because it was convenient. It keeps filth, bugs, and sand out but I don't think the flow is very good. |
K&N from eBay. Because it was cheap.
Filters are a compromise - the better flowing it is, the more shit it lets through. But honestly, it really makes no significant difference. |

Two of the filters got better numbers than running no filter. If someone could explain a reason other than differing tests I would be interested. 2. It's irrelevant to most Miata owners because that car makes 400hp. Interesting test, though. I suppose it has some use on filters that are significantly off of the "no filter" run, but anything close to it I would say is just down to the run. EDIT: Actually, I find it rather interesting how all the torque ratings are skewed much more than the HP ratings. |
K&N because it came with the BEGi kit. Amsoil filters are paper, and awesome for filtration, but I think K&N is good enough.
|
Same as hustler, the K&N that came from BEGI.
|
aem dryflow. they are washable and dont get oily dirt slime like the k&n.
it was readily available in a 4" inlet. http://gallery.y8s.com/d/17058-2/DSC02751.JPG I'm about ready to wash it though. |
Pep Boyz special.
Cause its mad JDM tYte y0 and was available in a 4" inlet. |
I use a mad tyte Specktre washable filer.... cause its what I have.
|
Its not about the length. Its ALL bout the girth:giggle:

I have a k&n now because I have a 20% discount at work. And the ghetto filter that I made last year was too JDM.
|
An older pre-dryflow AEM filter. It has a little velocity stack molded into the base. Nice touch.
|
I worm geared a sock onto my compressor inlet. I have big feet ;)
|
While searching eBay I found the 3A Racing filter which had an interesting link from Auto Salon Magazine, Issue 51, January 2007 that compared many of the leading air filters, including the 3A Racing air filter, K&N filter and AEM filter. See
http://www.australianauto.com.au/HTM...hoot%20Out.pdf It was surprising to see how badly my AEM filter rated with regard to air flow against the other filters. The 3A Racing filter was ranked 2nd in filtration and 1st in air flow so I figured that had to be worth a few extra "killer-wasps" AND it only cost A$40 DELIVERED from eBay so why not? http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...otSideView.jpg |
apparently Amsoil and Injen are now buddybuddy and sell together the amsoil blue filters.
for which you can get water and big particle-repellent prefilter socks! |
K&n ru-5111
|
Same as above, I use the K&N that came with my kit.

K&N from amazon. Best prices I could find for them. Even better than eBay. :bigtu:

Personally, I use an aem dry flow that i was lucky enough to find at the side of the road (go figure...)
There's nothing wrong with a K&N, but i'd be weary of auto-pep-zone china filters, i've seen the adhesive fail on them when heated resulting in little bits of metal, paper, and god knows what else getting sucked into compressors. |
Cheapest one from EBake, I just make sure it is lubed accordingly.
|
I used the filter that came with my FM kit
because it came with my fm kit |
Im using a AEM filter....didnt k&N bought AEM?
|
HKS honeycomb when I get some FLOW (pun is most definitely intended, bros).
|
I use a UNI cone filter
http://www.dynotechonline.com/store/..._med%20(1).jpg They breath from everywhere (including the top). Good price and great air flow. Previous to that I was just using a metal screen right on the turbo. |

Because I needed one in a pinch, and my 400ex was close by. Turned out to be the best filter i've ever had on my car...400ex got a KN with prefilter, car kept the UNI. |

Previous to that I was just using a metal screen right on the turbo. Make sure your using a "cage" inside the filter like I have or some kind of fail safe.. A buddy saw my UNI and put one on his turbo del sol, and somehow the filter came apart and was sucked into his turbo (likely due to heat and the glue coming apart). |
