What catalytic converter on your turbo car?

Decided I might as well be compliant with laws..

Planning on installing a high flow cat after I finish the built motor cause my current one will be dead very soon.

Need 3" and prefer factory flanged bolt on... What do ya have?

zoomin 04-09-2009 03:40 PM

Did you even try searching?

RotorNutFD3S 04-09-2009 03:40 PM

Enthuza just made me a metal core 3" cat with factory flanges. He's finding out what cell count it is. Good price too.

y8s 04-09-2009 04:25 PM

in the garage--I mean shed is a metalcat waiting to be implemented with some v-bands.

With 1,993 posts and 1.8 years on this forum, matter of fact I did.

Guess I didn't really state my purpose of thread, I'm interested in opinions not just what everyone has.

Searching "Catalytic Converter" returned 305 threads, which the first 2 pages of didn't strike me as very informative.

After seeing your torque curve with that cheap cat I'd be very interested to see what a better (maybe?) cat might do for you. What brand did you pickup? Assume its a universal weld in for your v-band setup?

The brand is "Metal`Cat". They kick ass.

High flow magnaflow? Not terribly high flow. Metal`Cat kicks their ass.

Metal Cat - The Hi-Flow Cat - Arguably the world's best high flow catalytic converter

as mentioned above, that brand. I got it also at JC oddly enough. they were sold out for a year or three. back now though.

Metal Cat 3.0" Inlet/Outlet Stainless Steel Catalytic Converter : JC Whitney: Auto Parts & Accessories

I'll have to cut out the current one and weld flanges on both the exh and cat. no big. at least no big once I get my welder back from brian!

zoomin 04-09-2009 05:34 PM

Holy crap, almost $200!!

y8s 04-09-2009 05:44 PM

one dollar per cell!

here, if you're cheap.

Magnaflow HI-FLO Univ Spun Metallic Converter 3 59959

MAGNAFLOW HI FLOW UNIVERSAL CONVERTER 54959

gospeed81 04-09-2009 05:45 PM

worth every penny...

I like the idea I *should be able to pass Harris County smog testing, and see negligible loss in power, and quieten the exhaust just a little more (have hollowed cat right now, man does it sound like ass).

can't wait to get mine on, should be here any day.

The_Pipefather 04-09-2009 05:55 PM

None. Detroit Rock City.

Enough said.

Stephanie
p.s. I have a magnaflow 3" Metallic core cat.

disturbedfan121 04-10-2009 01:20 AM

ask turbo tim. i have a 3" 200cell metal core cat from him

18psi 04-10-2009 01:27 AM

I have a non-existent one:)

crashnscar 04-10-2009 01:29 AM

Cat's are for people who want to run less timing and make less power and not shoot flames... aka pussies.

+1.

Well actually, using a stock NA 1.8 cat as of right now, until I build my custom 3" exhaust. Then the cat will be replaced with a 3" cutout. No emissions FTW.

Laur3ns 04-10-2009 04:29 AM

I run the Enthuza 3". Huge improvement over stock (with the rest of the 3" exhaust that is)

You and every other exhaust I've built (including pauls no muffler exhaust) uses Magnaflow's spun metal core cat 3".

MazDilla 04-10-2009 12:25 PM

FYI - PerformancePeddler sells the Metal Cat brand much cheaper than JCWhitney

http://www.performancepeddler.com/de...T_ID=SUP200605 $134.99
They knocked it down to $125 when I called for "best available pricing". Always free shipping

Performance Peddler drop ships these direct from the manufacturer same as JCWhitney.

I too am catless.... Do you really get flames?

elesjuan 09-18-2009 07:03 PM

Necroing an old ass thread like this to say "hope to stay long" Is pretty much grounds for permaban here... Nice knowing you.

Nagase 09-19-2009 01:33 AM

I was catless and had flames enough to blacken up my bumper and melt parts of it.

martijn 09-21-2009 03:28 PM

This was just the thread I was searching for

For local regulations and the once a year check-up, I'm planning to mount a high flow turbo cat. I just want to weld it, because there is no bolt-on solution for mine b6 nbb.

Because my downpipe is now build of 2.5" mild steel, I have searched for 2.5" models.
This one I've found:
OBX 2.5" high flow turbo cat

Because I live in europe, I have the need to order at a webstore (or ebay) that wants to ship to europe.

Does anyone have thoughts about an OBX cat? Or does anyone has a webstore for a better price/quality cat that can be shipped to europe.

avante43 09-21-2009 04:45 PM

If you want to try out cheapo no name metal cat, try this one.
Thunderbolt High Flow Metalic Catalytic Converter 3":eBay Motors (item 370204926354 end time Oct-18-09 12:39:36 PDT)

I bought a 3 inch one for my friends car and it hasnt destroyed itself yet.

martijn 09-22-2009 02:31 PM

It's a shame, they don't ship to europe :(

I'm prob going for the OBX cat. thanks for the reply's

Qckslvr 09-22-2009 03:16 PM

LOL you gripe about $200 for a cat converter? I spent $400 for a 2.5 Magna Flow metal core cat that is CARB compliant. My cat converter is also for a 5.0 Mustang, I am really hoping that the smog guy sees the EO number and doesn't check it to the system.

DontPassTheFence 09-22-2009 03:20 PM

El oh el, California sucks.
Although, in other news, I have a test pipe with stock flanges on it. I bolt the stock cat back in for emissions testing time (which isnt for a long time, yay arizona)

the ignorant pick on california. anywhere that has obdii testing is exactly the same. I have MORE inspections to do here in Virginia than I ever did in CA.

And people laugh now, but almost every state is eventually going to adopt cali's ways, if not every state. Washington I is next :(

CA has this new policy though. You must use an OEM or OEM approved cat converter that has an Executive Order number stamped on it. So far Magna Flow is the only game making after market CA cat converters :( and yes, soon the rest of the US will follow :(

Here is the part that will just send you into flames. Magna Flow stated that the CA approved cat IS the exact same as there other cat converters. The difference is that it has a EO number stamped on it. BUT a CA cat is $300 MORE than a regular cat, because they had to spend the money to pass it by CARB :vash:

hustler 09-22-2009 05:53 PM

I have the one from Enthuza. I decided to keep it at the last minute so I don't have to jack with it when the guy who does my inspections goes to prison.

ODB1 FTW, and what about everything having to be carb approved?
