Can confirm!

It really isn't that bad. I'd rather live in California than anywhere north of Austin and between Denver and Nashville. I don't even hate that there are smog laws - LA air quality has surely benefited, as has the bay area. I wish there were a way I could get my car to 95-level smog compliance without taking it back apart. I'd pay a few hours of dyno time hooked up to the sniffer to do a full spectrum test. But I'm sure I'm in the minority.

I had a professor in college who claimed to have designed that very sign.

Like, how the hell are you not merely familiar with that one specific sign, which is located on the side of a highway about 11,000 km from you, but also the particular term used by locals to refer to the architecturally-unique nuclear power plant which is a few miles south of it?

I mean, I know you went to school in the US, but god damn, that is some seriously specific and obscure knowledge.

I really don't get the CA-hate.

I grew up in Florida. Then lived in Cincinnati. Then San Diego. Then North Carolina. Then San Diego again. Then San Jose. Then Hoboken, NJ. Then just south of Poughkeepsie, NY. Then Manhattan. Then Chicago. Then North & South Carolina (briefly.) And now Chicago again.

And, in the course of my work, I've spent time in all of the major cities of the US, and many of the not-so-major ones.

Manhattan was great. Loved being in the heart of NYC. But aside from that, I'd be back in San Diego in a heartbeat if it was offered to me.

San Jose, and the bay area, didn't so much tickle me. The weather was nice, but the traffic sucked. It's like Chicago traffic, only with more lanes and less shooting. I can see why people have an aversion to that part of the state.

But SoCal? I'd gladly put up with CARB again in exchange for the wide roads, the gorgeous geography, the relatively low tax rates and home prices, etc.

Have you been in socal lately? I mean like this year.

This isn't just some picture I googled to be dramatic. I saw it with my own two eyes. Only the corrupt crooked pedo devil worshiper overlords actually live how you describe anymore.

Downtown Sac is looking great these days 😂

.

I was just going to say. If you haven't been here lately, you just don't know how bad it's gotten.

Please tell me that's south-central LA, and not someplace nice.

We would be more than happy to lie to you, just not sure what it would accomplish.

For a bottle of Vodka I am pretty sure 18PSI will tell you whatever you want to hear.

Pretty sure it takes far less than that

Total propaganda.
I have seen people practically begging Vlad to tell what they wanted to hear at the track. He's not some crooked politician type that'll tell you whatever you want to hear. He tells it like it is, although I know that picture is not from his neighborhood.

I tin-eyed it. That photo is, in fact, from south-central LA (E. 10th & Naomi) which has long been a notorious shithole. It's from this newspaper story: https://www.latimes.com/local/califo...601-story.html

So... yeah. Not really representative of SoCal on the whole.

good2go 11-20-2020 09:17 PM

^^ Come visit Oakland or San Fran and you'll see the exact same thing. It's all over, even showing up in the nicer outlying "burbs" where local city officials are too worried about being PC to put a stop to the influx. The trend in very troubling, as it has been progressing at an incredible rate over the last couple years. Covid is certainly not going to do anything but make it further explode.

Sorry Gordon!
Just teasing, my mom lives in SF but westof 19th ave. I pretty much stay west of the 101 as much as possible, except whenprocuring e85. Truthfully I am kinda uncomfortable going to the Berkeley e85 station now, don't want to hit a camper or trash on that exit.

I googled the picture. but I can take a video for you. IRL!!
I wish it wasn't so. Because I love CA, or what was formerly known as CA

I honestly want to see a video.

sonofthehill 11-21-2020 10:46 AM

I know it isn't what you are hoping for, but I took this video 2 days ago.

Going to visit my mom soon, I could get what you are looking for then.

Morello 11-21-2020 03:02 PM

Yeah, I spent about 4 weeks driving all over the bay area, central valley, and Los Angeles before accepting this job offer. You can find shit like that in any city - ever been to any of the rougher parts of Atlanta? Or Charlotte? Hell, Greenville has parts you don't stop at signs if you're there after dark.

Actually, the only disturbing thing I saw my whole time in California was a massive train of Trump supporters in a 100 car conga line honking, blocking traffic and making general idiots of themselves. In Manhattan beach, of all places.

Back on topic a bit - transport company is picking the Miata up Jan 4. Thankfully I convinced the company to relocate it using enclosed transport, because convertible in winter. What track organizations do I want to look at for Buttonwillow, Willow springs, and anything else? I've run with speedsf and ncracing, but it doesn't seem they go that far south.
