Wondering what cars I can beat at 8psi
Just as the title says im wondering what cars I can beat in the 1/4 mile at 8psi. My setup is td04hl-15g,330cc injectors, ebay fmic, stock ecu:eek5: ,2.5 inch downpipe all the way to the resonator, no cats, but stock rear section. So let me know your thoughts... a guy with an s2000was talking shit but apparently he ran a 14.4 do u think i can win?
s2000s are not fast. my neighbor's blown s2k is a joke.
So is that a yes I can beat him with my setup at 8 pounds cuz I kno ur car is pretty wicked fast.
:dunno: I've put s2k's in their place several times. Don't remember what stage of tune the car was in, but over 170 rwhp for stock ones and probably 200 rwhp for the boosted one.
I'd hope a car with 237 SAE BHP could lay down 170 RWHP... you lay on the drivetrain losses thick.
On a serious note, please tell me the comic in your signature wasn't based on actual events.. |
you could probably take some old foxbody 5.0's.... SOME (not all) turbo civics... vw 1.8ts and vr6's maybeee. haha you knowww
The S2000 stinks in the 1/4 because the few Yugo's still on the road have more torque than they do. 237hp, but something like 8lbs of torque. The high revving motor they use is built to be fast on road courses, not the drag strip.
If your trash talking s2000 driver ran a 14.4 you now have a time to shoot for. Run your car, if you beat 14.4 you know you should (or could) have him. |
FWIW, I ran a 13.933 @103.83mph at 7psi on a T25 turbo and not so good 60'.
did you have any motor work done?
No, stock 1.8.
237hp is only 140tq at 9000
i just wanna run him so bad but I dont wanna look like a fool since i got a turbo and if he beats a turbo car stock ill never here the end of it so i just want some reassurance
if you have good tire/clutch and can drive s2000 will fail miserably. they are equivalent to us at 170 or so whp BTW.
well i have good rubber, stock clutch, but i dont know my power output so im hesitant.
koto, you misinterpreted my post.
and the comic wouldn't be funny if it weren't true. |
assuming that your car and driver weighs 2400 lbs you could theortically run a 14 flat with 170 wheel hp. (baised on a couple et calculators) sooo reach that # or lighten your car :) take out your passenger seat thats reassurance.
well im supposed to go race soon but he hasnt called yet.... ill keep u guys posted... hope the stock clutch survives
Stock clutch it will be pretty tough for you to put the power through.
yea tell me about it i was just practicing launching and one of the launches it slipped in 3rd and 4th but the launch after that it seemed fine.... any suggestions that can help me out tonite?
Don't launch past 3200 RPM and keep it going shift at 6700 until you hit 3rd and then wind it out. Also skip the bleach box as you dont have slicks. And if you realy feel sneeky pack some ice over the Intake in a bag so nothing gets shorted out. ;) just dont get caught i dunno if they will let you run with it like that or not.
why 3200 wont i bog the car and be to low in the rev range?

No but you will enter boost just fine and not overwhelm the clutch. trust me 3K + is plenty just have to slip it abit and it will hold and move you of the line just fine try it on the way out to the strip and you will see. what i mean.
well the race was postponed until tomorrow... god I hope I win.
for real try these technhniques out abit you dont have to breack any speed limits etc.

Only suggestion is to order a new clutch now, install it, and be done. The jury is still out on the longevity of my Spec StII, but it's $310 for 240ftlbs of holding. The alternative to continuing to boost the stock clutch is: You'll be on an onramp at WOT, clutch will slip, rev-limiter will engage, you'll lift, and get run into from behind by some ricer in a Cobalt trying to keep up. |
yea i need to get on the clutch but the race is tomorrow so hopefully ill spank him.

The big question is, has either the OP or the S2k owner been to a dragstrip. People think they can run what some internet calculator says a 2400 lb car can run with XXX amount of HP. With two similiarly powered cars, driving is %99 of the race.
Everyone thinks they can race in a straight line until they actually race in a straight line. Rarely is a person not upset with their first few attempts at drag racing. "I thought I would be faster" is a common thread on internet car forums. Frank |
apparently he has been to the strip and ran a 14.4... i however have not been to the strip(hopefully tomorrow, but i hope that with the tips that magnamx-5 gave me i can get a good launch and get a good run in well see. The real thing im concerned about is that I have a stock ecu and stock rear section of the exhaust which is not allowing me to fine tune and get more power. Also we did go on woodhaven road this long ass road like a highway and i rolled out till like 120, topped out at about135, but then he caught up to me ... is this because he has a higher speed and redline?
probably taller ratios and longer rpm band...

VW 1.8Ts, adn VR6s of any kind (not Audi) you'll take with ease. Unless they are modded.

and 9/10 heavier...
VW 1.8t is the same exact motor as the Audi 1.8t's
a 1.8t with a reflash is a whole different car. |

FWD vs AWD. The K03 is still a tiny turbo.
Frank The only 1.8T Audi/VW you need to worry about are the ones who have changed the turbo, or have every mod in the book on the KO3. The VR6 models are slow stock or lightly modded, but slap a turbo on it and it will eat up all but the fastest Miatas. |
I went to the 1/8 mile strip recently with my 6psi and stock clutch. I beat the hell out of the clutch, wet box and all (couldn't be a wuss in front of the redneck crowd) but it held up fine. They laughed at first (my wife went with me and sat in the crowd) but not after the first run. I actually got some fans after that, she said. My first race was against a modified mustang, I lost but I still had him in my sites at the end. I completely smoked a celica (funny, his body kit didn't help him) and an awd talon (stock). Got crushed by a modified evo. The final race was against a dodge dart with cams and big tires, he ended up catching me and beating me by 0.1 seconds. My times sucked, my launches sucked, and I kept missing the 2/3 shift but thankfully it didn't really matter. The run against the dodge was good though. I did notice a small loss of power as the runs went on, a little heat soak. Going again a week from friday. Some other guys going also, stock evo, etc.. Ordered an intercooler after the race so I am putting that on next week when lovefab has some time. Then I will truly see what the stock clutch can handle, probably up it to 9psi. Still deciding on what to replace it with, I think I want the act. I need to read all the clutch info on here again. I will try and get some video. I seriously love this car, don't really miss the fd much at all now.
