Another vote for atmospheric EWG. My buddy's WRX sounded bitchin' with it.

Cute turbo, Ben. ;)

My Tial is dumping to atmo, it's not that bad. Easy fix for you to get it installed easily that won't make you hate life. Some people say's it's wayy to loud. I don't see it being all that bad.

cardriverx 12-21-2007 07:24 AM

dump to atmosphere = the shit.

I'd be willing to bet there is enough slop in all the bolt holes that you could loosen everything (Turbo, WG, and DP) and get the bolts started then start tightening, It doesn't appear to be off by much.

Ben 12-21-2007 08:42 AM

No, I don't think it's going to bolt up. If it looks that close in the pics, then the pics are deceiving. I'll go ahead and spray the EWG flange bolts with some lube and see how much, if any, play it has (since it has to come off anyway due to deteriorated gasket). But it would have to move towards the dp and rotate about 2 axes.

It's really too bad. This downpipe looks really friggin cool.

it looks to me like the EGR port threads into another piece of hardware...possibly theaded for a thermocouple.

Ben 12-21-2007 08:55 AM

No, it's just a plug

I called FM and tried to explain the situation. Jeremy said "call back after the holidays." Jeremy wasn't aware of any special torquing order, and promised he'd email the pdf of the install instructions. He sent me an email, but didn't attach the file. http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/imag...eadscratch.gif http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/images/smilies/mur.gif

Definition of insanity. Doing the same thing, the same way, over and over again, and expecting a different result. ;)

Is it possible that is the correct 1.8 DP, just bent? That's a bell manifold and turbo, send it off to them and have it adjusted for your turbo.

Braineack 12-21-2007 02:19 PM

doesn't look like it'll reach, not even close. just cut the pipe and fix it. its an easy fix. will the flange on the EWG itself match? it looks a bit different.

brgracer 12-21-2007 02:19 PM

Ben,

I remembered that I had a 1.6L exhaust manifold gasket lying around so I measured it for you. There is exactly 41mm between exhaust ports. If your manifold has more, then it's probably a 1.8L one.

Ben 12-21-2007 02:41 PM

Yes, the flanges on the EWG and DP are the same. No, they don't line up. No, I don't think it's a matter of the DP being bent. Yes, it's probably not too tough to fix it, if one were inclined. Tom, I measured the mani against my stock 1.6 header last night. I want to say that the 1.6 header was 41mm port edge to port edge, and this FMIII was 45mm edge to edge. I'll upload the pics I took...

Also, I have a seperate FM/BEGi bell mouth T25 1.8 downpipe. It was new in its wrapper, but I went ahead and opened it and assembled it. It's a good inch or inch and a half longer than the FMIII downpipe, and the cat flange is at a very different angle.

I'm kind of positive that I have a 1.8 mani and a 1.6 DP. I have no other explanation.

jayc72 12-21-2007 03:25 PM

Does it have a flex bellows on both the wastegate tube and downpipe?

Ben 12-21-2007 03:30 PM

Yes
