3.5 second 0-60mph??? Seriously? I didn't think this was in the realm of possible. Makes me feel funny all over.

miata2fast 01-28-2019 07:37 PM

For kicks and giggles, I plugged my best naturally aspirated 1/8 mile pass into the Wallace Racing Calculator, and it calculated 4.71 0-60. I am happy with that.

This is another 1/8th mile test form yesterday using dragy. I'm pretty much traction limited to around 3.5ish 0-60 with nitto 245/50/16 drag radials on the street surface I test at. Hopefully I can get to a prepped track in the near future to improve on that.

DeerHunter 01-28-2019 11:47 PM

Watch out for your diff on prepped surfaces. Not sure what rear end you're running but my OEM Torsen exploded on my 4th-ever run on our local drag strip.

Yeah that has been a concern for me as well. I don't plan on going all in and changing rear end setup as did Pat. I am using a built jatco automatic tranny, actually the same as mx5psi. An automatic is much easier on the driveline than a manual tranny, unless of course you're using a transbrake as does Pat., but even then you still get some cushioning from the converter. When I built my transmission I gave serious thought about designing in a transbrake, but elected not to for mechanical empathy of the driveline. I also leave in 2nd gear instead of 1st as thats proven for me just as quick, if not quicker on the street. If I ever get to the track I'll continue to leave in 2nd. I can also control the initial hit and ramp up rate of my turbo spool up to some extent by raising or lowering the closing pressure of my spool shot solenoid. All that being said, I will still be trailering car....

Newaza 06-30-2019 01:15 PM

I went to the 1/8th mile dragstrip and made a couple runs last night. Got some dragy data on one run for the 1/8th mile time which was corroborated by the timeslip so this proves accuracy of the dragy.
I am posting the track slip along with dragy data. These were all on same pass. The 0-60 on this run was 2.98 seconds and 2.76 seconds factoring in 1 ft rollout as do magazines and manufactures when these report data. More info on the car is posted in my rapid spool with compressed air thread.

I recently came across a database that Greg Peters of the car passion channel is putting together. Some of you guys may want to post up your times on his database to help get the ball rolling. I sent him a 1/8th mile timeslip which he will post on his next update. He has spots for several various performance metrics.

Jesus Newaza, sub 3.0 second 0-60 bananas. What kind of tires/suspension are you using?

I watched Greg's latest video and his 0-60 (3.7sec) is nothing to scoff at. Anything that beats my childhood dream car (Lambo Countach) is amazeballs in my book.

Our cars are so similar in times and 0-60. I ran a 6.93 in the 1/8th and 0-60 in 2.99 seconds, you ran 6.91 and 2.98. Almost identical!

Hey Mudflap. I'm using stock suspension except poly bushings and camber change to plant tires more flat under heavy load. Running Nitto 555r drag radials in 245/50/16 size. That run was done at the track. Better traction over the street for sure, but still traction limited. In fact, I start out in 2nd gear rather than first due to traction limits and it helps to preserve diff and axles. I dont really have any other dragy 0-60 data from the track. However, there is a slight dip in the track right around the area where 60mph comes up which dragy sees as a grade change of greater than -1 degree so it wouldnt validate the section of the run whereas it validated other parts of same run, so I feel its likely accurate as well. Once I started going back to track I focused more on 1/8th mile data using timeslips and stopped using the dragy for the most part. On that particular run I just happened to be using the dragy. I've made a couple changes since that run that should improve my 1/8th mile trap speed for sure and maybe my et slightly, but still need to do tire ugrade to hopefully further improve 0-60 and 1/8th mile et.

Hey Pat. Hope you are doing well.

Yeah we are right there with each other. However you have a LOT more headroom in the 60' potential over me with your transbrake and upgraded rear. If you can ever get back to the track to start playing with real drag slicks and big boost off the line I would expect some really hard launches out of that thing. My only potential advantage over you might be in trap speed if all else is equal since I can lock my converter up top for a little more driveline efficiency, but it will not be enough to overcome your potential launch advantage in the effect it will have on elapsed time.

Newaza 11-08-2020 09:05 AM

I went to test and tune at 1/8th mile track last night to test some recent changes to car. Got a new best time of 6.64 in the eigth. I also had the dragy on this pass to record some data. It recorded a 0-60mph time of 2.63 seconds without rollout and 2.43 with rollout. There are a couple dips in the track which dragy interprets as a downslope so it wouldnt validate. However the dragy data agreed very precisely with the track timeslip so I figure the 0-60 time is accurate as well.

I dont know since I've never had car on a dyno. Never cared to. However if you input my best 1/8th mile trap speed of 107.86 mph and approximate wieght with driver of 2600lbs into the wallace race calculator 1/8th Mile ET-MPH-HP Calculator it puts me at 507hp at the crank. Im guessing on the weight. I'm around 190lbs and car is heavier than stock since it has a heavy alston 8 point roll cage and steel air tanks in the trunk as well as all the turbo stuff. Pat is likely similar if not more.

Newaza 10-03-2021 09:08 AM

New best 0-60! the dragy didnt validate as it interprets a dip in the track as downslope. However I feel its accurate as the dragy recorded a 6.56 at 105mph 1/8th mile while the timeslip from the track recorded a 6.57 at 105, so the 0-60 should be spot on as well.

If your car is running 7.80s @ 87 in the 1/8th I would think that 0-60mph time would be a good match for a stick shift car. How did the dragy report and the track timeslip measure up for the remainder of the run? Thats actually a good 60 foot time as well for a for a car that traps 87 in the 1/8th. You running slicks or drag radials?

When I use the dragy at the track it is always, and I mean always within a tenth and 1 mph of the timeslip, and usually even closer than that. I would call that pretty darn accurate. It's been pretty thoroughly tested by many others in the drag racing world and found to be about as accurate of a on board measurement device as can be had for the cost. It's actually the go to time measurement device these days for no prep guys where timeslips are not reported. No prep races are getting to be pretty big money now so if those guys are using it for data and calling it good, that would be good enough for me.
Like spartan, I too would like to know what experience you have that disproves the accuracy of the dragy?

Newaza 10-08-2021 06:18 AM

here is a quick video of a no prep guy testing the dragy backing up what most people are claiming.

You are within three hundredths of a second and 0.37 mph. That's pretty damn close.

LOL! As LukeG said. Thats pretty damn close!

I dont know how much closer you can expect. Some of the difference can be due to if you shallow or deep stage. the Dragy, or any other device, has no way to account for that. I've tried the Dragy, g-tech and perfexpert app. The dragy was consistently by far the most accurate to the actual time slip. As I said, its always within a tenth of a second and 1 mph, and usually closer than that, to the actual timeslip. Thats good enough for me and 99% of the guys out there.

SpartanSV 10-08-2021 09:44 PM

There is quite a bit of variation in how long it takes humans to blink, but it seems like most internet sources agree on an average time around 300-400 millisecond. Your dragy example is within a tenth of that.

IMO that's pretty accurate.

Yes this is at the dragstrip with slicks. No, this was actually on an 11.94 pass. On my 11.69 pass i went faster at 3.24s but it doesn't show the 1 foot roll-out, because I did dragy video, so idk which it is. I'll try to attach the dragy video.

Hi, I know this is a very old thread. But could you fill me in on the modifications you were running to get into the 3s? I have and ND2 so it might not be possible but I would like to get an idea of what I should do.

Newaza 04-07-2024 10:56 PM

Figured I would post a dragy video from trip to the track the other day. I already posted it on my build thread. It shows 0-60 as 2.54 seconds. The video time shown doesn't take into account rollout. With rollout it was 0-60 in 2.34 seconds. Anyways I figured this could revive an older thread in case any others want to get cracking on here.
