1/4 Mile - 12.046 @ 114.25MPH (Video)
Went back to the track Friday to (finally) start tuning my spark maps. Each run I bumped the map up 1 degree, ended the night with 5 degrees up over the base MSPnP map, didn't touch anything else other than adjusting the launch control slightly. 110oct, Toyo RA1s @ 20psi, roughly 16-17psi of boost, stock internals, yada yada.
First run - 12.710@113.05, 2.0 60ft Second run -12.532@113.39, 2.0 60ft Third run - Couldn't find 3rd.. :giggle: Fourth run - 12.106@114.05MPH, 1.749 60ft Fifth run - 12.046@114.25, 1.711 60ft Sixth run - 12.077@114.60, 1.763 60ft I never realize how much I short shift until I watch the videos later. Hopefully with a few more tweaks and better driving I can hit 11.999.. *fingers crossed* Vid: |
Damn. Nice passes. Looks like there's still something to be had in the launches from the videos, but jesus 1.7  What are you running for rear suspension? If I tried to launch like that I would break shit.
|
Those launches are definitely testing the limits of a Torsen. Suspension is JIC FLTA2, dampers are set about in the middle I think. It only wheel hops every now and then, but it usually goes hand in hand with a poor launch on my part. No hop on any of those 1.7 runs though.
|
Nice runs, I wish I could launch like that.
|
WOW MAN!!
holy shit thats all I can say, WOW!!! mad fucking props to you...damn it...now I cant wait to start my build already thank you for the inspiration to hurry up im not going to say 1 thing about that except WOW.....coming up on 11's in a miata trapping 114 is just plain awesome congrats ps: any chance of a complete list of whats done to the car? thanx |
Holy shit dude, this is very impressive. Have you considered going to a clutch-type rx7 lsd? Should make for better launches and (hopefully) wont break. Plus if you do it before you blow the torsen you can sell it to recoup costs.
Anyways, those times are awesome. Those launches are nasty, what are you launch control settings and how much boost do you make on launch control? |
I'm impressed. I'd say there's some talent in the mix...no? And sub 2 second 60fts is amazing on the RA1s with stiff sidewalls.
|
wow, i'm really impressed. Mad driving skills. WIN
be careful with that torsen, might wanna try and get some money out of it just in case it grenades. Keep it up! You'll be in 11's soon |
Looking good, can't believe it's still in one piece :)
I don't drag and I don't know what your power curve looks like, but maybe it's time to shift to 5th at the end if power is dropping off more than a shift is going to cost you? |
Congrats man! :bigtu:
Why do I get a message saying: "this video is no longer available" when I try to see it? |
5 degrees over in spark. Cool.
With tmes like that you don't need a V8. Build your internals and go for 24psi. LOL |
I gotta agree with the torsen sell. The rx7 lsds are selling for <$150 on eBay now.
|
Wow those are some damn good passes.
|
Yea, I didnt think you could launch a miata successfully like that, I was really waiting for the violent wheel hop.
Very awesome ^_^b |
Good job, dude.
|
Mad skilz. The fact you are holding everything together at that PSI attests to your abilities!
|
Jesus.... You'd better sell that torsen before its worthless..
MAAAD Props on your runs!! |
Is that anti-lag I'm hearing, or just a secondary rev limiter? Mad Props! With any luck hopefully I can join you in the 12sec. club. Damn open diff..

You could go dorrifto and weld it! :giggle: (just kidding) |
Hey Apex, whats the weight of that car?
IIRC you've lost a few parts from the car here and there? |
Those numbers are nuts! I seriously didn't think a miata could run those kind of times on anything short of drag radials, mad props, and then add some more on top for pulling this off on stock internals.
I can't wait to see you hit 11s, may I say again that this is fucking nuts. |
Very impressive....
;) |

Crap... I need to weigh mine. My best friends with a mostly full tank of fuel in a full A-Package car is 2400 even.. Thats with PS, A/C, and maybe some junk in his trunk...
Not sure about the record, I'm sure you're close. You should totally dyno that beast!! |
I am going to for sure, probably the last thing I do this year before tearing it apart for the winter build up.
I can't make it back to the track for another week and a half, it seems like forever! |
Did you advance timing all across the board or only on some parts of the table ?
thanks |
Since that was the first time tuning off that map, I bumped the whole table up together, up to 6800. The base timing map is pretty conservative. Next time out I'll start working on individual parts of the map.

I'm also running a PnP with the base map N/A but looking for more power. I'll save atiming map with some addvance and try it. I read somewhere that for non blown the bas map is best left with little advance above 2900 RMP:hustler: |

Apex; I have to ask:
1) are you using a 5 speed trans? 2) what's your gear ratio? Thanks |
I'm happy to see someone right at 11 in a miata that isn't tubbed with a solid axle. It looks like I might be able to build a car that goes fast and turns well.

I definately think that my car would have seen 10's if I could get a similar 60 ft. I definately know I had the power to do it, it's just a matter of hooking it up. I could never get it to hook up in 2nd gear. In 3rd I always hooked, even up to max pressure. So, I think that if I could have gotten through that issue I would have been good (and didn't miss any gears:giggle:). Nevetheless, 10's is a really good goal and something to be proud of if you achieve. But, just know that you will always want more, just look at me.
Good luck on your quest. I'm tired:yawn: |
What was your best ET? You had that sick turbo build, now LS1 or something right?

Stock 5spd (Number 2) and stock Torsen(number 2 as well), its a 94 - can anyone chime in with those gear ratios? I think the trans was out of a NA6 but those gears should be the same. That makes it even more impressive in my book! :bigtu: BTW Mike, you should take some classes from Apex! :giggle: |
Holeshot 101 :p

Oh well, I should be lower then a 9.99 when I get the car running again and things setup right. |
I'll never put a short throw on anything, I miss gears too much as is lol.
|
very nice i still don't get that damn rear end my first run i lifted the front of the car and then it fell on it face and lifted again i had bad suspension i have stance gr's now mega squirt and im doing my fuel system over right now then off to get pro tuned i just bought another torsen diff i couldn't pass it up for 60 buck local pick a part
i tryed to get the racing concepts 8.8 rear diff swap but the guy wouldn't return my call's so im gonna drive the lsd into the ground and then figure some thing out as well very very nice times i was also thinking about a welded diff just for drag |
Any chance you can post up the timing table?
Great runs man! |
I can post them later tonight or tomorrow if you want, but it is basically just the MSPnP base map +5*
