I have yet to drive a turbo 1.8... but I have the feeling I'll want to swap if I do. I'm guessing along with the bigger lung capacity the 1.8L head flows better as well? I have driven a friend's KA24 S13 with a GT2560R, it literally feels naturally aspirated compared to mine. I don't have an apples-to-apples comparison but I'm sure the 0.86 A/R on this turbo puts a damper on its spool-up.

Would have cost you around $600 to upgrade if you had done it before you started the turbo build. Hence the cadre of members here who implore people building 1.6 turbo cars to swap to a 1.8 early on.

But, like many of the other people who turbo their 1.6L, it's my DD. I was able to turbo it without having more than 8 hours of downtime (at once) for the whole build. Didn't have to worry about transporting and engine, said engine being no good, etc. Are any of those things really that difficult to overcome? Not really. But it was just easier keeping my healthy 1.6L in there and seeing what she could do. There are a lot of 1.6T's running around, and still a big market for 1.6 specific turbo parts, for those simple reasons. Would I like a 1.8L in my car? Would I 1.8L swap if I did it again? YESS
