12.96 @ 110.6 mph GT2554

Hi all,

I eventually got to the drag strip today for the first time since I turbo'd the 5. I'm pretty pleased with the times but I think I can work a bit on the launch. I didn't have my laptop with me so couldn't play about with the launch control rev limiter. I think I'll try and raise it 100 rpm at a time to try and stop bogging down.

What is a good 60ft on 195 tyres?

Toyo T1-R

WOW, what good numbers! What clutch are you using?

wes65 06-28-2009 06:58 PM

That's a great 60' for street tires. What kind of tires are you running?

GrahamC 06-28-2009 07:06 PM

I think I can knock another 0.1-2 seconds off the 60ft time with these tyres. I was bogging down ever so slightly with the launch control set at 2k rpm. Like I said, I didn't have my laptop with me to adjust it.

And I'm running Toyo T1-R tyres. I did have Goodyear Eagle F1s and rated them, but these were too cheap to refuse. I'm not sure how popular they are in the USA though. Here's some info: Toyo Tire

Thanks for all the comments. I'm going to be going GT28RS soon and I'll try to dip down into mid to low 12's. Fingers crossed!:bigtu:

I forgot to mention I'm running an 'F1 racing' clutch I bought on ebay from a company in Cali. I was a bit dubious at the time but after reading some positve reviews I decided to go for it. I've been running the car daily like this for almost a year now with no complaints. IIRC the clutch was rated to ~320lb ft torque.

Here is the link to the clutch: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/F1-RA...51810007r33056

Do you know how much power you have? Unless it's above 250ish, I'd say up the launch control to 3k and then start adding 100rpm at a time, 2k is very low. Although 195's are very thin.

Nice run, that's a good 60ft for street tires.

JasonC SBB 06-28-2009 10:28 PM

Those are very good numbers, especially for a GT2554.
When I had a GT2554, the thing spooled up so quick that launching at 2500 rpm (on the street) seemed about right.

your shit is slow, lol.

ZX-Tex 06-29-2009 10:10 AM

Check his location, that is a metric 1/4 mile, so it is actually shorter...

j/k, nice times! I would also be quite happy with 12 second runs.

GrahamC 06-29-2009 11:31 AM

A metric quartermile, haha :D

Hopefully I'll get R888's on next time, the launch control sussed and a GT28RS. I'd guess I might hit low 12's or dare I say it - Late 11's???

buffon01 06-29-2009 12:38 PM

Wow very nice mate!!

ThePass 06-29-2009 02:41 PM

Our ebay "stage 3" clutches FTW!!!

GrahamC 06-29-2009 05:58 PM

You're not kidding about the clutches. Cheap & cheerful but seems to have held up well to abuse *touchwood. The only slight complaints are that it chatters a bit in reverse when the car is hot, and also it grinds a bit if you ride on the bite point for any length of time. For the price i really can't grumble at all.

How the fuck are you trapping 110mph off a 2554? How much boost? Motor? Gas? Timing map?

GrahamC 06-29-2009 06:19 PM

Well its my first time up at the strip, but here goes:

13-14psi
FLAT SHIFT <<< I think this helped a lot
Standard 1.8 BP
Shell V-Power 99 ron + Nitrous Formula (Race version) Octane Booster
And the hybrid timing map from the MS forum on here. I know I shouldn't be using someone elses spark map with no mods, but motors here are ten a penny and cost around £200-300. Until i make time to get the spark tuned on the rolling road, who gives a f*ck if it blows in a years or two's time.

http://www.miatamx5.com/ms_files/spa...rid_timing.jpg

I was getting slight knock from the knocklite toward the end of 4th gear on most of the runs, so I should really look at pulling some timing from that map. I need to wait until my new tuning cable arrives until I can do that.

I also tried to shift into 5th on some of the runs and ended up with ~13.2. Holding it way into the red in 4th seemed to work best.

LOL months ago you didn't believe me when I told you a guy with a similar setup to my '2554 was trapping 107 mph.
