Default Dyno graphs from NE Dyno Day 11/15/08

While we are still waiting for the guy at ACA Performance to figure out how to email me the DRF files* I figured I would at least put up the scanned printouts. Not ideal since we can't overlap them but you can glean some info from them. Like Tim don't **** around.

Note that in Artie's gutted manifold pulls the x axis is wheel speed, not engine speed.

My Daily Driver: Stock 94 motor with 269k miles on it, GT2554R, BEGi cast manifold, 2.5" ic piping, 18x12x3" core fmic, AbsurdFlow 3" bellmouthed downpipe/exhaust, 14psi

The Machine: Stock 99 motor with a BEGi turbo intake manifold w70mm tb, GT2560R, 2.5" ic piping, 18x12x3" core fmic, AbsurdFlow turbo manifold/3" bellmouthed downpipe/exhaust, 17psi

Artie's 95 with stock 95 motor/99head with GT2560R, 2.5" ic piping, 18x12x3" core fmic, AbsurdFlow turbo manifold/3" bellmouthed downpipe/exhaust, 15psi

Artie's 95 with stock 95 motor/99 head with gutted intake manifold, GT2560R, 2.5" ic piping, 18x12x3" core fmic, AbsurdFlow turbo manifold/3" bellmouthed downpipe/exhaust, 15psi

In summary:

My daily makes 200+ ftlbs of torque from ~3200rpm to about 5700rpm.
The Machine makes it before 3100rpm and holds it out past redline.
Artie crosses the 200ftlb mark just before 3200rpm and can only hold it to ~6700 rpm with stock intake.
With the gutted intake manifold Artie makes 200ftlbs ~100rpm later and just holds it above that mark out to redline.

Does Arty run VICS on the stock manifold? I'm guessing not.

Now you have me wanting a 99 head and a new intake mani. Good thing I'm broke at the moment.

The only difference between your setup and Artie's is the intake manifold and throttle body right? So he'd pick up another ~25 hp with that.

That and I'm a much better driver on the dyno.

I have much shorter and more direct intercooler piping so that may be worth something.
I also run a 99 bottom end vs Artie's 95 bottom end.

My 300hp run was at 14psi, Artie's 278 is in the 15psi range.

looks like you've found the limit of your gt2560r as you've only made another 11whp with 3 more psi, though your torque curve is even sicker

Yup, I posted that in another thread somewhere. I am considering a 2871 not because I want to make more power but because I want to do it with less boost. The 2560 is definitely maxed out at 14-15psi making 365 crank hp.

When going to the gutted mani, was Artie's car leaned out, or was that the same tune from the last run with the full manifold? Looks like it was leaned out more on the top end after the first gutted run. Looks like the stock manifold might have made more power with more tuning on the top end given the afr.

What's the compression difference between the 99 and 95 bottom ends? Just trying to pick out the differences.

The car was re street tuned after the manifold swap. Artie's 3rd pull with the stock intake manifold is within .5 afr.
When we swapped the gutted mani on artie's boost dropped 2-3 psi. I guess this is due to more or the air actually getting into the motor instead of building up in the manifold. So for run 2 we brought the boost back up to 15 where it was for the first set of pulls.

cr on 95 is 8.8:1, 99 is 9.5:1

hmm i'm not sure the 2871 should be your next turbo with a stock internals motor. i could be wrong but that torque curve is so sweet i'd hate to see it lost with too laggy of a turbo. do they make a gt2860 .86? i wonder how different spool would be between that and a 2871 .64?

2871 is a newer and better turbo than the 2860. They are supposed to spool equally but the 2871 flows better.

Active VICS vs gutted manifold would have been more interesting. Too bad.

I've been patiently awaiting the results of this dyno-day for the purpose of deciding which turbo is best for me. I know Corky says the 2560 is his favorite all-around snail, but with my plans for an S4 and 3"dp/exhaust making spool a non-issue, I had settled on a Disco for the headroom... and also being able to make 300whp on a few less psi than a 2560. But if the 2871 is a better unit... now my homework starts all over again.

I would have loved to see the boost lines along with the AFR's... but can I assume based on the torque curves of all 3 setups, that full boost is reached around 3500rpm? Can I expect the same response from a 2871? How "inferior" is the 2871 spool... are we talking about 200rpm or 500rpm?

paul, your old stock manifold plot to Brad's latest with his 2871...

sam, I can tell you from personal experience there's a noticable difference in spool between the 2560 and the 2860. The 2560 feels way torquier down low.

Wow, this thread just really made me have to rethink some things.

That absurd flow turbo mani seems to be the ticket..

WoW! I'm jealous of that 311whp! Maybe someday...soon.
