1st time at the 1/4 mile in the miata.

Went to the drag strip this afternoon for the first time in the Miata. Made about 4 runs in 6 hours. Had a few problems with the car, nothing serious so it was still a fun day.
All the runs were on low boost since the ebc wasn't cooperating with me. It was limited to the 5.8 psi wastegate spring, but it was still able to hit between 6 and 7. The setup is still the stock block with the SC61 turbo running on street tires. It would have been nice to have a bit more power, but it did fine for what it did have. It was a good day and I am looking forward to spring. Can't think of a better way to spend the day prior to putting the car in the garage for the winter. One of the guys from the shop has the run on video and I will post it tomorrow if he emails it to me. |
wow i would be proud of a 13.3 on 8psi of boost
Those are damn good times for 6-7psi.
Man, 1.5 sec between lanes? For 6 psi that is great times. 13.3 that is wild.
He is running the same turbo that MikeF85 ran... Pretty big, even for a 2.0 stroker :)
Very nice. 2.154 60 and that 1/4 mile time, that's impressive. I ran 14.6 with a 2.577 60' running a T25 on 7psi with a stock clutch that wouldn't hold. In spring time I want my times to be pretty much close to where you are now. For my turbo though, it'll take a good clutch and probably about 12psi. What FMU / motor / turbo / clutch are you running?
Jay you need to unleash that beasty turbo! ;) and add your build up in your sig.
NICE! Props to you.

Nice job Jay. Need to find a track that you can get more passes in. 4 in 6 hours wouldn't be fun.
Do you run any road course days? Looking to come up to pacific some time next year for a track day. |

I need to take care of that stock block. I'm going to be using it to add some weight to my wallet.
11.5 on a stock block would be SICK. I would think that would be living on borrowed time. Someone go try it!
Jay what are the specs on that turbo? Are you stroked or stock block? |

Compressor Wheel Inducer: 2.416" Compressor Wheel Exducer: 3.227" Compressor Wheel Trim: 56 Compressor Inlet/Outlet Size: 3" CHRA Bearing System: 360 Turbine A/R Ratio: 0.63 Turbine Wheel Style: T350 Turbine Wheel Inducer: 2.795" Turbine Wheel Exducer: 2.437" There's a few different versions of this turbo available, so this is just from Precision based on the engraved numbers of my particular turbo. Right now I'm just running a stock block. |
Is that ball bearing? I have been looking at the precision line up lately, a few of my friends run them and I want something ball bearing if I end up building this block.
[/hijack] |
This is a little tricky, the original owner sold it to me as a ball bearing turbo and also specifically told me it was a ball bearing turbo. I trust him, so if it is different, then it's because the guy that he dealt with when he bought it new lied to him. On the other hand, Precision is telling me that it definitely isn't, but yet aren't 100% sure and can't seem to tell me anything else about the turbo. The more I deal with Precision, the less they impress me. I wouldn't really trust them to stand behind what they sell.
Did it feel like it was ball bearing? There has to be a lot of lag on that size turbo.
To me it doesn't feel or spin like it's ball bearing, but I'm only comparing it to my little turbo I'm going to run it until something else comes along or it starts having problems. It's only oil cooled and I thought that the ball bearing turbos are all oil and water cooled?
Here's a video of one of the runs.
