'97 50 Trim T3 @ 12 psi

Kind of odd that my torque and HP are almost identical... but here it is.

I had the owner of Horsepower Engineering (11950 Perry Road Houston,TX 77064) tune the car also.

Their standard rate is $75 for 3 pulls, or $400 for tuning. The guy knows his shit and learned MS in about 15 minutes. End result of the tuning was an increase of

HP: 17
TQ: 27

He leaned out my top end considerably from what I had in my map... he also added in about 12 degrees of timing just about everywhere. No knock, spools much faster, and I'm pleased as hell.

Seemed to make the best power at about 12.0:1 @ 10-12 psi.

THINGS THAT ARE HOLDING ME BACK:
1) The turbo isn't able to hold 12 psi all the way to redline, this is why the dyno stops at 6500, i wasn't making any more power past that. Boost dropped off to 10 psi around 5800-6000 rpm

2) 2.25" cat back

3) 2.5" downpipe

I'm working with Begi now to get the downpipe issue resolved. The catback I might be getting from AK if he parts out.

I'm hoping that those two will free up the turbo enough to make it breath in the top end. If not I'll get a to4e 50 trim t4 compressor before long.

I want his exhaust, go make ur own, you have the skills. :(

But the numbers are impressive.

Post up your timing table if you dont mind.

Looks like it gets real fun around 3500 rpm. That is a .48 turbine right?

Arkmage 03-21-2008 04:09 PM

yeah .48 turbine.

Saml: I got dibs, you don't want to pay for shipping anyways... that shit ain't cheap.

Wanna fight? ;)

sure thing... my skinny ass will lose, but it would still be fun for the rest to watch :)

this is the best part... full boost at 3500 rpm. he managed to get it as low as 3200 on one run but the car started to knock and misfire so we went back to this map.

lets see your spark table!

nice work. that .48 a/r may be the determing factor of that power curve more than the exhaust is. the exhaust will probably improve spool but not so much top end. top end on your setup is probably limited by the small A/R turbine housing. I love that hump at 3500--I bet it feels good in real-world driving.

gohdunlam 06-02-2008 10:39 PM

yea that a/r is kinda small but the powerband looks nice =D

UrbanSoot 09-27-2008 03:48 AM

wouldnt it hurt spool if he would go with higher turbine a/r? i think that .48 is perfect for street car (noticed that there is no roll bar so its not a track car for sure)

18psi 09-27-2008 03:56 AM

bigger turbine (higher a/r) would make it a bit more laggy, yes, but the topend will improve significantly. freeflowing exhaust will improve spool as well as topend, but the topend improvement will not be nearly as big as with a bigger turbine. IMO

Braineack 09-27-2008 04:19 PM

his best improvement would be holding the boost flat to redline.

willo 09-28-2008 01:24 AM

Of course, dropping some power near redline may be good

If anyone else drives the car, dropping the power a bit near redline could help discourage others from redlining it like mad.

That's been fixed.

not an issue anymore... the new exhaust and downpipe allows 15psi to redline.

new dyno sheet coming soon.

willo 09-28-2008 11:16 PM

Now you tell me!

Dang. I came within inches of buying a .48 today, but held off while I pondered the power roll off. Actually, I still need to check out the 1.8 that's destined for my 92. It's nice to know that the exhaust took care of the restriction.

Braineack 09-28-2008 11:45 PM

T3 Super 60 with a .48 a/r turbine.
