Back to the dyno: 1.6 15g @ 10psi

The last time I was at the dyno was just under two years ago. Back then I was at 10-11 psi, and I put down 206 whp / 178 ft-lbs.

Since then, I've had a better 3" full exhaust fabbed in place of my old 3" dump before the rear axle, and I've also done a lot of various maintenace items like fuel filter, spark plugs, etc.

Last but not least, I actually turned the boost down a hair - so that it was just a solid 10 psi instead of fluctuating up to 11.
I also set up an EBC solenoid connected to a switch in the cabin to allow me to switch between a regular boost setting (10) and a lower conservative psi.

Yesterday the BMWCCA was doing a dyno day so I attended and did a couple quick runs.

Details:
Stock 1.6 - 130k miles (turboed for 30k now)
Greddy TDO4H 15G on Greddy manifold
BEGI downpipe
CXR intercooler / custom 2.5" piping
No AFM -converted to MAP
DYIPNP Megasquiqrt / 460cc RX-7 injectors (70% duty cycle)

Run 1 the dyno guy was having issues getting rpm signal so it's not on the chart
Run 2: 10 psi flat -207 whp / 208 ft-lb
Run 3 - low boost setting: just barely 7 psi - 186 whp / 180 ft-lb - I really wanted it to be lower, like 5 psi, but I'm having trouble getting the wastegate to go lower.
Run 4 - 10 psi again, but with the silencer insert in the muffler - 193 whp / 199 ft-lb - I run with the silencer in most of the time I'm on the street and was curious how much power it restricted. Turns out it saps ~6%

Don't believe the rpm too much - on the chart it looks like he stopped at 6k but he hit the rev limit of 7200. He was having trouble getting a strong spark signal to read on the dyno and was messing with the calibration in the dyno's computer, so I think the scaling for the rpm is off a bit.

So, 208 ft-lbs is a solid 30 ft-lbs more than back with the old mufflerless dump exhaust!
Overall pretty happy. 3 years and 30k miles turbocharged and the original unchanged 1.6 is still going strong.

thing spools like asshole...what's the deal?

care to post timing map?

Wow man, our setups are almost identical. Any reason you're looking at 10psi as your "high" boost setting? Got a lot on the table there.

looks correct? the rpm is way off he mentioned that.. he reved to 7200rpm the plot goes to 6300 it looks like. given where the car starts to make power how long of a line it takes it to get to 6300 thats its nornal.

Braineack 03-29-2011 08:24 AM

I guess if he started sampling at 1000rpm it would look normal, just not used to seeing a torque dip like that before the turbo spools.

here's the last greddy kit I tuned:

EDIT: okay yeah, looking at the OP's plot, it's majorly messed up. The 5252RPM crossover points are inconsistent....Dyno definitely wasn't metering the tach correctly.

Yeah, like engine life.

That's making great power for 10psi on a 1.6... be very happy with those number.

I'd say I have no issues yet, but then Murphy's Law would dictate that my engine blows next week.

its on a dyno dynamics that reads 15-18% lower then a dynojet
