Default 321.24 whp / 305.02 wtq @ 19.5psi

Well, I got a little bit of some disappointing news today. I finally got the car to a Dyno and I was hoping for some better numbers but here they are:

321.24 max power / 305.02 max torque at 19.5psi. My A/F ratio can still be tweaked a bit. I was sitting around 10.6:1 at full boost. The Dyno was having issues picking up the Fab9 COPs spark signal so the RPMs are alittle inaccurate. The bottom graph shows the power compared to MPH vs RPM for reference. The pulls were in 4th gear with a 7800RPM redline.

If the RPM is incorrect by about 1000rpm or so, then the power output is higher.

Why was it in 4th gear? 5th gear is 1:1

10.6:1 is leaving a good bit of power on the table.

So, basically you mean that the graph is useless?

I didn't know what gear was best for our cars. So I should be doing pulls in 5th?

It was a $40 for 3 pulls type of night, no tuning on the dyno. Not that it really matters because the car needs to get running on a different ECU....

Thinking about just trying to go with the LS truck coil setup, not sure yet. The guy running the Dyno is a member here who had the Fab9 COPs on his Miata and experienced the same issue on several different dynos

Looks like you just have some things to iron out and try again. 321 is still really solid power, but obviously you can make more.

So, like, 10....
Agreed that it's still too fat and should be trimmed.

A 5th gear pull would have showed a little more power. Leaning it out some would have made more power. I don't know anything about your setup, but with the way TQ falls off up top I have to wonder if more timing up top would have made more power. Overall numbers look good to me and there was definitely more left in it.

higher gear would just make it spool better. how would it make more power?

Isn't that pretty common knowledge that you want to make pulls in the 1:1 gear because it has less drivetrain loss?

The "loss" difference is usually not more than a couple hp, which can easily be attributed to anything between pulls. There was even a dyno shootout done on other forums based on this discussion.

Shouldn't 6spd be dyno'd in 5th?

Edit: apparently it's not that big of a deal

So what are we arguing about?

We're not arguing. I'm saying it doesn't really matter because the difference it would show would be same as the difference shown between two identical pulls.

I'm saying he's got other problems to fix, and dynoing in wrong gear is the least of them.

Either way, it's obvious there's power there that didn't make it to the dyno sheet. I wouldn't let this one drag you down. The real way to get your dyno-sheet-for-bragging is go there and put some time in so you can tune.
