first time on slicks
Tried out some slicks today for the first time. i likie! i have not gotton used to them since it was my frist time today using any before. you have to drive alot different on these compared to street tires.
i picked the hottest day of the year, got to 106 degrees :(. on my last run of the day i started to get the tire pressure right and i probly could have got a little stiffer on the rear shocks. this was on 12 psi on the turbo and 10 psi in the slicks, probly would have liked 8-9 psi in the slicks better. i am thinking with a cooler day and the right pressures and a good launch on the drivers part and a good shock setting and alignment and keeping the car a little straighter half track i could pull off an 8.2 then time for more boost http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...h_CIMG1101.jpg got a 1.712 60 ft launching it at about 5 grand, still triing for a 1.65, i would be super excited if i could do that. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/CIMG1088.jpg |
Cool stuff. Looked great outside of the swerving. Those slicks look mean.

Looks good man, seemed to bog a little after launch, but good run overall.

I was wondering how your car was coming along, your 1/8th time is about a second faster than what I did the other day :) It was my first time though

I love the rear bumper... are you the one that posted pics of the cut up job? I've been looking for that thread as I might do something similar.

well ill say it again, it was my first time on slicks. running them at 10 psi makes the car feel like its driving on butter back there and i had no idea how much it likes to wonder around. i looked over my shoulder to see how far back the 240 was and noticed i was not going straight anymore. now that i know how the tires behave at that psi i dont think ill be doing anymore shoulder peeking.
i coudl deffinetly have launched it harder. its hard getting used to that when you couldnt even launch it when you had street tires. i can see how people break axles and trannys with these things. hopefully next time i am up there itll be a 7.99 after my retune and more boost and better weather and better car setup. talk about fun though, i am addicted. for those of you drag racing wizards, how is my mph 4 lower than before. i know i shouldnt be too concerned but i was dragging along an extra 120 pounds this time compared to my last time and the 100 degree air, could that have done that? i would have thought it would at least stay the same. i was getting 84-85 mph on a 70 degree night and 120 pounds less |
i was thinking of removing all the panels on the back of my car next time i go to the track. i dont know if it will make much of a difference. but i also will be trying to run a hardtop and without a hardtop.

aero may help in the 1/4 but in the 1/8th its all traction and giddy up. i was running no fender or hood or bumper and it seems to slow me down alot with all this crap on here. but on the road at like 80 my gas milage has gotton so much better

how is that any less safe? its just a bunch of shitty plastic parts that wouldnt survive an impact with my knee

what is the sound when you launch? what is scrubbing/hitting?

Decent times for first time out for sure. looks bad-ass too.
|
I bet with some more seat time and 70* weather you would break in the 7s.
|
the sound isnt any scraping i dont think, i lifted the rear alot to make sure of that and check the tires, i think the sound of these tires gripping sounds like adhesive when launching.
i think it was the heat slowing everyone down, alot of the 8.5 guys were running near 9's and the guy that always ran a 6.5 was running a 6.77 that day. o well ill be back out after i get her bumped up to 15 psi this wed/thurs and see if i can start my runs a little later in the day. |
looks good, the heat is killing you though. 80mph is way slow. I'm gonna wait till fall to take mine back out to the track. It sounds like your car is pretty similar to mine power-wise if you run 84-85mph normally. that's a nice 60ft as well.

I've never drag raced anything. Do you cross the finish line in 4th gear?
With my stock gear ratio i cruise at 80 mph at 4500rpm in 4th gear so i'm just guessing. |
thx, well see. i get to about the top of my 3rd with 23 inch tires and a 4.1
