GT2560r vs GTX2860 genII

Thought this would be interesting to share here. This is a virtual Dyno type program but it's actually very accurate and repeatable. I took the best log I could find on the 2560r and compared it to two recent logs I did on my gtx2860. Biggest difference is the 2560 was done in the dead of winter and the 2860 was done in the heat of summer. So the 2560 has every advantage and it's basically a best case scenario for that turbo. I actually have dynoed the 2560 on a dynojet and it made 296whp and 302ftlb, anyways. The 2560 is running roughly 20psi falling to 18psi. Both 2860 graphs are running 21-22psi to redline so a couple more lbs of boost. I always see a lot of people worried about lag. Well if you are running a .64 turbine like I am you can see lag isn't really an issue. 2560 does light off faster but by 3800rpm the 2860 passes it and doesn't look back. I remember Jeremy from FM did a comparison a long time ago with these turbos but at only 12psi and there was no difference between them at that low boost level besides more lag on the 2860. This is a true high boost comparison to show you what they can do. My 2860 is still not maxxed out I can probably bring it up to about 24psi before it's tapped out. |
Nice info. Thanks for sharing. It's cool to see only a ~250 RPM difference in spool even with slightly higher boost.
I'm curious about this software. Logdyno? I'm assuming you upload a pull and enter your information same as VD. Any reason to use this over the popular VD? |

I think this comparison really shows that the new GTX stuff is not laggy, after driving my car with the 2860 gen2 I find no reason to go with a 2560 unless you only want 200-250whp. |

I'm really looking forward to see how the new 25-550 compares. While I am planning on going Borg Warner EFR for my next turbo setup, I will admit that if the 25-550 gets close to my goals with similar'ish midrange to the EFR it will make my decision to ditch my current manifold and downpipe setup pretty tough.

I just added this to the top of the thread as well. I finally got a new laptop, it had literally been 10 years since i got a new one. I got VD to work and uploaded my run and this is what it comes up with. I mean, thats pretty much 6258 type boost threshold no? Borg Warner lovers where are you at???!!! |
This is pretty awesome as i have a 2560 and now know that a GTX2860 Gen 2 is worth a look, if i want to upgrade my turbo and NOT change ANY parts, even all the oil fittings are the same.
Is this on E85? |

The appeal for the GTX2860 is definitely strong. It makes me sorta wish I went with a T25 route instead of MKTurbo for more upgrade options down the road. I went with MKTurbo for the cost efficiency and easy button-ness. It was my first time going turbo and I didn't want to fumble with sourcing a turbo and other odds and ends. I'm loving it so far at 8psi. I know I'll want more eventually (soon) though.. |
