GT2871R 48 Trim and e85 dyno

99 Motor Supertech 8.6 Pistons Wiseco Rings Manley Rods ARP Head and Main Studs ACL race bearings VS855 (somethign like that) Valve springs Fluidampr Pulley Functional VICs manifold OEM oil pump w/ 1 shim Supporting mods Garrett GT2871R 48 trim .64 turbine housing Vibrant 350hp intercooler Kraken manifold and 3 inch Downpipe 2.5 inch catless exhaust with big magnaflow GFB EBC Hydra 2.6 ID 1050x with DW200 pump (OEM FPR and rail) Toyota COPs All runs were made at the same boost level, peak around 19 psi tapering to 17.5 psi by the end of the run. All that was changed between the runs was timing advance. e85 is amazing stuff and as an amateur who does my own tuning, I love the safety cushion it gives you to go aggressive and find MBT. Break up on the first run was ECU pulling timing thinking there was knock. Picked up the 48 trim turbo for dirt cheap on craigslist so figured i would give it a shot. Really pleased with it. makes great torque (~200 ft/lbs at 3k rpm since everyone loves that metric). Doesn't feel too far off from my 2560 just with way more top end. timing was ~17-18 degrees at peak torque and 25 degrees at redline. VERY solid numbers! congrats.
This is the second time i see a 2871 .64 hit 200tq by ~3000 rpm. both with Kraken hardware. must be a blast to drive. anything over 300hp on a miata is bananas. |
My kraken gt2860rs setup spools better than my old BEGI log with a sr20 t25 and makes waaaaaay more power.
Looks great, OP! #goals! for my setup. I've yet to push it past 12psi or so. |

It’s a riot to drive for sure. Been a fun learning process getting to this point. Certainly money to be saved by going all in from the start but if you enjoy tinkering and testing and don’t mind spending more money in the long run then there’s something to be said for building things up along the way.
the 48 trim was one of those things that there was basically no real user data on. Glad I can throw another data point on here for someone else to leverage. |
What was your injector duty cycle at redline?

80% on the Hydra but in Hydra, 100% is more like true 85% duty. So actual duty cycle was probably more like 65%

Which shop in Nova did you go to dyno at?
I need to get my GT2871 on my Absurdflow ramhown back on my car and see what numbers it puts down. I know 9psi was roughly 215whp at York Automotive. |

Excessive Motorsport in Manassas. It’s a mustang specific shop. Good Dyno set up. Ground level, huge read out screen. Chris the owner just stood outside the car and operated the Dyno while I did the pulls, logs, and tuning.

Never heard of them, but there were always shops coming and going on Euclid. Check out PTuning in Manassas sometime when you get a chance. The have one of the best dyno rooms I have ever seen. When I hung out with them in 05-09 they started out on Euclid Ave before moving to their newer much bigger location.

I run a hydra 2.5 which I think is pretty similar to the 2.6. Hydra isn't the easiest to tune with but once you get it dialed it's great. My car has been problem free for almost two years now, and hydra gets a lot of hate but it works. Edit...I see you were running 17* at tq peak up to 25*... Missed that in your first post. That's a lot more timing than I can run on 93, lol. I get knock at tq peak with anything over 13-14*. |

My car runs and drives great and its been running on Hydra and various setups (injectors, turbos, fuel types, motors) for over 3 years. A lot of the hate here came from its pricetag, which was a non issue for me since I bought it used. But like a lot of things, the masses just started regurgitating what others were saying and the hate took roots. Thats my theory at least. Functionally, Im not sure its really missing anything (except flex fuel in 2.6) and probably does a few things better than MS (knock control perhaps). |
