MSP turbo (GT2554R) / 1.8 VVT

105k miles untouched, oil burning hero vvt motor
oem Squaretop
251whp, 217tq @ 12 psi, pretty conservative timing
Dotted lines are sr20 t25

I was feeling like on the limit of the stock rods. 2nd image shows what two more degrees of timing can make (more than I'm comfortable with).

Thing is a spool monster too. Starting to spin at 1450 and would go up to 16psi a touch before 3k (turned down for obvious reasons)

What a torque plateau!

Wow, this must be so much fun to drive... Only needs some china h beams :jerkit:

Exactly haha.. Might do a rods only in the near future.

Dang nice numbers! What kind of timing are you running out of curiosity.

Great numbers and power curve!

interesting to see it pull hard all the way to 7000rpm, most bp motors peak around 6200rpm and then power falls off.

Here's my ignition and boost maps
Worked hard on getting the torque curve as flat as possible.

I'll have to check my timing map but I'm pretty much in the same range but I run 8.5:1 compression. I think I'm conservative on my timing, but I drive it hard so I like to keep it safe. Great job man.

Curious about the 0's in the bottom row?

Trying to get the exhaust to pop lol

Make sure Decel fuel cut is turned off, the more timing you take out the more bang you get

Your build thread was very helpful to read through, same here with these dyno results. For someone planning a turbo build who has a journal bearing T25 in hand but wants to build it once and build it right, would you say it’s worth it to hold out for a ball bearing MSP turbo or were you happy with the original turbo’s spool and response? Numbers look quite similar, curious if there was much difference in terms of actual driving feel.

@6monther I was perfectly happy with it. if you plan on keeping the engine stock for a while, then the journal T25 is the way to go. The MSP is a rod-bend capable of a turbo. I am probably at 260-270whp right now but dyno is a few months away.
