Newbsauce's Dyno Results 12/28/06

After an hour of tinkering around we got some good power out of his beast. However, we saw the same problem Bruce, Tom, and others are having with the wastegate...it would make the boost and slowly drop off by redline, resulting in a HP curve that stays flat. No doubt once that is solved it will make a signifigant HP gain.

The RPM pickup kept freaking out on the dyno so there are chunks missing on his pulls at 4k...any thoughts on that? new plus and wires..maybe coil?

That's the last time he will let you run his dyno; you broke it:nono:

That is amazing torque, definately need to get that wastegate problem fixed, then the horsepower will match the torque.

good to see it not dangerously lean. how much boost was on those runs. My boost holds rock steady at 10psi(on the gauge, probably about 9 in reality) but i'm still on the stock downpipe. I don't want to go any more till i get on the dyno i think i'm leaning out with my 305s at 80psi.

How much boost?

Fritch 12-29-2006 06:01 PM

the torque numbers look skewed because of the graph cut out, but the rest of the curve looks good

hahah he ran before me.

We made lots of power just from leaning it up...his first couple of runs were completely rich throughout the powerband. We found that the PO had put silicone compound in the needle valve of the FMU with a tiny needle prick to relief pressure. Even with a restrictor we could get him less than 120psi of fuel...we were able to pick it out and I think we got him around 90psi of fuel.

the cool thing was, the VPC unit actually works! At idle he could adjust his mixture with a turn of the knob. Adjusted the tip-in and we leaned the gain out a tad in the midrange before it dumps fuel. Pretty cool acutally.

Once he gets a spring on their we'll go back and tune it again....We'll play with pressures some more and see if we can't tune it perfectly flat.

Looks good! Just a few comments:

1) Even with good coils, wires, etc... sometimes the rpm pickup just doesn't get a good signal due to location or whatever. Next time, I'd try a different wire and location. I've seen this more than a few times at different dynos and different cars.

2) Maybe consider a helper spring. Ever since I added mine, my boost holds strong to redline. In fact, that's what helped me hold 15psi at the dyno whereas Bruce's boost was tapering off. Once in awhile, I even needed to lift a bit as the boost would flutter up toward 17psi.

3) I forget what exhaust you have. Wondering if any exhaust restriction is adding to the torque being higher than the HP, though most of it is probably from the boost dropping off.

HOW MUCH BOOST? AHHHH:vash:

:gay:

I had the same problems with the RPM pickup on the dyno taking a shit. I've seen this happen with Maitas a number of times, possibly due to iffy plug wires.

Braineack 12-30-2006 12:47 AM

could have been a fouled plug..he has been running really really rich lately.

boost was like 12 tapering off.

exhaust is a sebring, so I assume it's a 2.5"

Newbsauce 12-30-2006 02:57 PM

The thing thats weird is that the plugs and wires are basically new.. probably less then 2k miles on them

Braineack 12-30-2006 05:05 PM

oh brad...you need to fix that wastegate....you'll be making about the same power as me if you keep building HP....

Newbsauce 12-30-2006 06:05 PM

Wow thats actually pretty on point. I'm gonna start looking for springs probably this week unless I can find one online and just order it. I think we should both just order megasquirt. :)

Newbsauce 12-30-2006 07:58 PM

Oh and the exhaust is a 2.5" turbo back

What peak boost are you running?

Braineack 12-30-2006 11:12 PM

I'm running at 11-12psi. He's hitting 11-12psi but it doesn't hold to redline.
