Post your 1/8th and 1/4 mile timeslips here please

I know many, if not most Miata owners consider drag racing a fools game but there are some who are into it and enjoy building and testing for that purpose. Most of us who do drag their Miatas realize its not the best platform for that purpose but many like the challenge.

I wanted to create this thread for guys who do drag their Miatas to have a place to post their results and basic mods required to achieve those results to not only display the fruits of their efforts but also for others to see what works and what doesn't to get the most bang for the buck in their projects. Useful information will be basic turbo setup and boost, Estimated horsepower if you know, transmission type, and rear tire size/type required to achieve the results of whatever timeslip you post. Also altitude of the track will be good to know, A picture of an actual drag strip timeslip will be most desirable to post, but in the absence of a dragstrip you can post trusted to be accurate data as well such as vbox, dragy or others just so long as they are proven to be a reasonable match for dragstrip data. If you have data from a timing source that was used at same time a run was made while at a dragstrip and can compare those results with the timeslip to help others to prove or disprove the accuracy of that device, please post that as well. However if you post data other than a timeslip please include 1/8th mile test in the result, reason being many tracks now only run 1/8th mile, the ones that do run 1/4mile also include 1/8th mile data on the timeslip, so if everyone has 1/8th mile data it helps all to compare mods vs result for same data point. Would be great if this could be sticky.

I will get the ball rolling.
99 Miata. Wiseco off the shelf pistons, chinese h beam rods, arp hardware, ebay gtx3076, ebay cast log manifold, ebay intercooler, stock head and cams, built and much modified by me jatco 4n71 style tranny(out of early miata, mazda calls it a nc4a-el), stock rear with poly bushings and rear alignment set for tires to be square with ground at launch, custom compressed air system to quickly spool turbo at launch, rear tires are nitto 555 extreme drag radials 245/50/16 (lots of hammer action required for fitment!!)

Boost was set at about 31-32psi for this run.

This is dragy result from same run. this helps to prove reliability of this device.

thats fast

der_vierte 07-01-2019 11:09 AM

really fast!
I can only imagine what it takes to go from 60-125 mph, my guess is under 10 sec.

a 6.91 second at 105mph in the 1/8th mile converts to roughly 10.8 seconds at 130-132mph in the 1/4 mile. So definitely under 10 seconds 60-125mph. Actually knowing my 0-60 time on this run (dragy reported 2.76 seconds with factoring rollout and 2.98 without) and my 0-100mph time (dragy reported 6.32 seconds) it took 3.32 seconds to get from 60-100mph so add roughly 3-4 seconds to go another 25 mph that would be approximately 6.3 to 7.3 seconds 60-125mph

Padlock 07-01-2019 01:59 PM

I'm not sure its worth posting... but when I ran my bone stock NB and got the following results to baseline it:

60' - 2.144
330' - 6.36
1/8 - 9.881
1/8 mph - 69.92
1000' - 12.925
1/4 - 15.512
1/4 mph - 87.24

What turbo and how much boost were you running on this run?

tehzack 07-02-2019 06:34 AM

Edited original to include that. Link to turbo just for illustrative purposes. I found it for $250 or so if memory serves.

ryansmoneypit 07-02-2019 07:58 AM

that reaction time though

Asleep. I get shit from the timeslip woman if I take more than a tenth, "Wake up!" she says.

It was test and tune night, my first time back at a dragstrip in over 20 years and I was just there to test the car and my spool shot system to spool turbo. I wasnt trying to cut a light. When and if I decide to be a regular again I will get good lights. I bracket raced for years in the late 80s through the mid 90s so I know how to cut a light. Both me and the car have a lot more in them LOL..

ryansmoneypit 07-04-2019 10:36 AM

I was real good at some things 30 years ago too

Just poking at ya bud

NB 1.8, Stock bottom end, 60/40 Methanol/99RON, WRX TD04-13T @ 15psi

Probably a 12.5 in it if I could string everything together, I either do well after the 330ft or 60ft well and miss a shift or something equally dumb

Not proud of this 60'... But just for reference here is my 2nd pass of my life (last wednesday).

60' 2.747
330' 6.34
1/8 8.981
1000' 11.199
1/4 13.065
MPH 121.89

So I think that is a 12.0sec run if I could pull my $#@t together on the 60'. Fast car, slow driver. Fun!

This is at Bandimere in Denver for reference (altitude) on a 90F day.

Nice.. 120mph.. you're moving! How much power are you making?

Mudflap 07-14-2019 05:36 PM

i figure upper 300s. I dyno'd at 250kpa and 355hp. So that run was 270kpa. I think I have room for more, but need to control the intake temps and watch carefully for knock.

sixshooter 07-15-2019 11:53 AM

Denver at 90F is tough to make power so that's a really good mph.

Mudflap 07-15-2019 12:33 PM

A lot of the big boy turbo v8 setups were running ice cooled intercooler setups. Anyone ever try that?

I'd guess water injection would be easier to plumb.

Great idea for a dedicated drag car. God awful for a car that sees the street.

Padlock 07-15-2019 02:16 PM

its more commonly called an ice box. pretty simple for street cars to use that already have liquid to air heat exchangers. very popular for cars with factory superchargers (terminators, CTSV, ZL1 Camaro, etc).
