I posted this in my build thread but figured I would put it here as well. Recently my GTX2860 that I kinda slapped together last year with a Garrett CHRA and a Arashi compressor wheel and housing bit the dust. I needed to get back on the road as cheap as possible to I bought a Pulsar GTX2867, normally I would only use Garrett but its $1500 and the Pulsar was 1/3 that cost. The Pulsar is a .86 a/r turbine and a larger compressor so its spooling slower than my GTX2860 but its still hitting right around 4k which is honestly just fine. Getting into the powerband is easy with this turbo its way more linear. The 2860 hits HARD in the midrange and then loses steam up top. I was running 25psi tapering to 22.5 by redline on the 2860 to achieve the same power the 2867 is with 18psi tapering to 21psi to redline. I now have an EBC instead of the MBC I was using before. So I chose to bring the boost on smooth to keep the car more linear instead of hitting like a ton of bricks. I want to turn it up more but I dont want to break anything before the gap trip.
You "should" be able to use your old turbo housing from the Garrett. Might be able to get a little bit faster spool.
I am hoping to grab a few Pulsar turbo's in the future. I am also a dealer.
Yea, but my bb cartridge literally exploded and both wheels got catastrophic damage so the housing may not be useable. And it's already on the car and the spool isn't that bad so I'll probably just run it as is. I have 300 miles since the incident and I still don't trust the engine. It saw a lot of metal flakes in the oil after the turbo blew. It's still got great oil pressure but only time will tell.
See now seeing this makes me want to get this turbo. I was worried about it being super laggy but my chins T3 is making 20psi at 5krpm. This thing is a whole 1000rpm sooner than that lol. Granted my VVT isn’t working atm so that’s greatly contributing to my lag. Thanks for posting! Keep us updated on the longevity and reliability of this thing!

Yea I think the spool is actually just fine. Im in the mountains this week for Miata's at the Gap and the turbo and car have been flawless so far. If you have the rpms at 4k the boost is pretty much instant. Under 4k from like 3-4k the turbo isnt at full boost but its still producing quite a bit of boost still so its no 2560R but it also can make 450+whp.
Little update I did another VD pull the other day just to check on the car. It's running up to 26psi now, the total hp# isn't much higher but there is a lot more tq. I think in order to make more power up top I need ethanol so I can run more timing, but I'm happy where the car is at. 93% injector duty now so this is about as much as I can ask of it.
I am curious how your 6 speed is holding as well. I am looking at building similarly and I am at a crossroads of what I should upgrade to from my 5 speed. The 6 speed would be the easiest and most cost effective paired with a Torsen.

I have broken one 6 speed that was from an nb1. It was actually back over two years ago when I had a 2560 making 296whp/280ftlb. I flat shifted it into 4th and grenaded it. Since then I got a nb2 az6 and I'm a lot nicer to it in the sense that I'm not trying to shift hard and fast I try to treat it nicely. I still hammer on my car often but I'm not trying to rip gears as fast as I can. I think the weakness of the az6 is when you try to drag race with it or shift incredibly fast under power.
Just an update for anyone who searches these things. 383ft/lb will break your 6 speed lol. Probably shortly after I said I hadn't broken the 6 speed I broke the 6 speed lol. What did we learn here today? Do as I am doing now and keep it closer to 300-320ftlb which is probably still too much but it'll last some time.
The blue car that I used to have had a tree fall on it during a wind storm. I now have a nb1 that's emerald green, it has all the parts from the blue car swapped over. Still running the same exact kraken/psr2867 combo everything has been perfect. I run only pump 93 and 19-20psi now hoping to keep the az6 lasting longer. I need to do a VD pull and see where the car is at. Figured I would update the thread. There is the Miata as it sits now, and I got my daily FK8 back there 👌 Engine bay shot, still no intake lol. Thinking of doing a better catch can setup soon. Mostly unchanged.
That's a hell of an update! Crazy that the blue car is gone, but that green NB1 looks cherry!
And subtle flex with the typeR. SIck.
Yea the blue car had so much aura about it bc we had been though so much together but the green car is definitely in better shape paint and body wise its probably a 8.5/10 kinda car, and it came with rb sways and a rollbar.
I really love the type R. I had a 10th Gen SI coupe that I tuned and I fell in love with these new turbo Honda motors and wanted the R. The SI had the L15b7 1.5L turbo. Tuned it could do 27 psi and it was 240hp/300ftlb lol. But the OEM clutch would slip and those engines aren't known to be the strongest. So the FK8 fixes all those issues k20c1 is amazing and the chassis is so good. What a great car I always wanted a type R. I have an intake and full exhaust on it I'll tune it soon and put a bigger fmic on it. Should be 370whp/380ftlb tuned.FK8 make the power so easily.
The FK8 OEM turbo would be interesting if someone made it work on a Miata. The flange is wrong but it could be adapted. It's a td04HL it's a 49mm inducer compressor wheel which is bigger than a 2860 which is 46mm. It's got a smaller turbine wheel than a gt28 turbine. The compressor is good for 42lb/min which is right between a 2860 and 2867 flow wise. On the k20c1 it hits full boost 23psi @2900rpm. I think it would do so good on a BP. So in theory it would flow like a 2860+ and spool like a 2560r. The trim on the compressor wheel is like 70+ or something. It's the biggest compressor wheel they could stuff into a td04 center section. I'm just a turbo nerd but these new OEM turbos are crazy good for response and power potential.
